A New Perspecitve In Life (Rating: 10 out of 10- -5.0 stars),

Now I've never heard of The Coup before until about earlier this year. So I wanted to purchase Steal This Double Album and Pick a Bigger Weapon shortly afterwards. I must have missed the message on Steal This [Double] Album, but I understood it on Party Music that they are heavily against Capitalism. But the content of the album is excellent. "5 Million Ways To Kill A CEO" is a good song if you can get past the dance type beat and listen to what Boots Riley is really saying. "Ghetto Manifesto" is nice song where he talks about people who are struggling at their jobs just to get minimum wage. "Ride The Fence" is another great song where he talks about the bad America is running things and he couldn't have said it better, "You can't do sh*t if you ride the fence..." (And if you put it in your computer or go to Yahoo music, you get the animated video- props to Halik Hoisington for putting that together) Another stand out song is the last song "Lazymuthaf***a" where Boots talks about how rich people have butlers because they're too lazy to do things themselves. The message is real clear on that song. Pam the Funkstress gets a few good cuts in the CD too, listen to "Tight" and the hook to "Ride The Fence". Every track is dope. I origonally wrote this review and said "Pork & Beef" wasn't that good of a song, but after listening to it again, it's acutally one of the better songs on this album.
This group from Oakland is very unique and is a great example of standing up for what you believe in. People say that this album was either a hit or miss, and to me this one was hit out of the park. Many people may have a different opinions on what Boots is saying and may not believe him, but hey, opinions make the world go around. Thats something we definately need in life and in hip hip. This Bay Area trio did a good job since it was ranked #1 in 2001, by The Washington Post, and The San Francisco Chronicle. Great job!!! Now lets find away to reissue Kill My Landlord and Genocide & Juice. Lyrics: A Production (and scratches): A+ Guest Appearances: A Musical Vibes: A+ Top 5 Tracks: 1. 5 Million Ways To Kill A CEO (personal favorite) 2. Ghetto Manifesto 3. Ride The Fence 4. Nowalaters 5. Pork & Beef (featuring T-Kash) Honorable Mention Tracks: 1. Wear Clean Draws 2. Heaven Tonite

Why, O Why, am I only the THIRD Person to Review This?!?,

Did anybody buy this album?
The Coup is amazing. I used to think the Red Hot Chili Peppers was funky. (Yeah right!) The Coup is the funkiest rap duo from the Left Coast. Just listen to "5 Million Ways to Kill a CEO" or "Tight." Both are funkier than anything the Chilies ever released. (And by the way, I'm not saying anything negative about the Chilies; they're one of my favorite bands.) "Everythang" starts things off right. I love the lyrics. They're so smart. (I don't care for the hook though.) "5 Million Ways to Kill a CEO" is epic. The lyrics are truly poignant. "Wear Clean Draws" is simply touching. I read that Boots wrote it for his daughter. The production is immaculate. "Ghetto Manifesto" is catchy. Again, the production is immaculate. "Get Up," featuring the Dead Prez, is surprisingly gangsta, although I doubt the artists intended this. Still, it's a sweet track. "Tight" is my favorite track for two reasons: (1) I love its simplicity and (2) I love the scratching. I get this track stuck in my head for days. It's so chill...hence the title of the album: "Party Music." "Ride the Fence" is central to the message of The Coup. It's an anthem. It asks it's listeners, are you riding the fence or are you taking a stance in life? "Nowalaters" and "Heven Tonite" are also chill-out tracks. But between these tracks, we hear another anthem: "Pork and Beef." This track is amazing. I love the chorus and the off-kilter production. What noise! "Thought About It 2" is also poignant. (Honestly, I don't know what to say about.) "Lazymuthaf---a" is a nice closing track. It's very much like the first track, "Everythang." Overall, the album is fantastic. When I first bought it, I listened to it everyday for about a week. It's fun, it's catchy, it's punchy, and most important to me, it's pure West Coast rap music. Your rap collection is not complete without The Coup's "Party Music."
