I heard them perform for the first time in Lima, PERU..the only problem is they are from Japan.. and I couldn't find their cds there..or in the US ..Luckily I found them on here... Believe me it is well worth the price...Not only is their concert upbeat...it really appeals to the first time listener... really worth it **** =o)

If you enjoy the Rinken Band's music on cd, you should see them live; I was fortunate enough to see them perform live on several occasions while I lived in Okinawa. The music of Okinawa is truly unique, and reflects the Uchinanchu (Okinawan people) culture of peace and harmony, This band truly represents the Okinawan mindset and the music will probably hit your heart before it gets to your feet.

Great Okinawan music similars to Nenes,

This is great music. In the vein of the Nenes or Shoukichi Kina (and if you don't know who there are, well my sympathies, you are missing some wonderful music). Like the Nenes, the Rinken Band combines traditional Okinawan music with more contemporary sounds resulting in a very nice mix. Haku rates it 4 stars!

Even if you know little about Okinawa or Okinawan music as I do, this CD is well worth listening to. It is exotic without being self-consciously New Age-y. And while I have no idea what they are singing about, the music is uniquely uplifting. Here and there it is a bit heavy on orchestration, sounding like a theme for a Japanese graduation ceremony. Other songs sound composed for children. These are not complaints, just examples of the surprises contained in this diverse compilation of fascinating songs. Feeling down about losing your job, a dead pet, breaking up with a significant other, etc? This is just what the doctor ordered. |
