They can easily handle pots that have been in the oven at 450F, and are a great deal.

Not the prettiest I've ever seen, but we need them for protection, not decoration.

I purchased two of these mitts because of the Cook's Illustrated/America's Test Kitchen rating. This mitt came in second on their review, but received the same "highly recommended" rating as the one that came in first, and got the "best buy" award. The winner of the review was the KatchAll Red Kool-Tek Oven Mitt 12-in. that (currently) sells for $43/each on Amazon - $86 for a pair of oven mitts?. . .ouch.

I decided to take the "best buy" route before spending that much money, and ordered two of these bargain-priced mitts (the shipping charge was more than both mitts). I'm not crazy about the tan color, but it was the only thing I could find anywhere. There's certainly nothing wrong with them, and they perform nicely, but I personally find the 14-inch length a little too long for me, so will use them as BBQ mitts.

In the meantime I have located the manufacturer online (phoenixmfgla-dot-com) where these Flameguard mitts can be ordered in a myriad of colors and lengths at comparably low prices. By the way, "Flameguard" seems to be a very popular name for oven mitts, and there are a half-dozen or more different manufacturers that call their mitts by the same name. If you want the Flameguard mitt that CI tested, it's this one made by Parvin Manufacturing (Parvin by Phoenix).

One important thing about these mitts that is not mentioned by Cook's Illustrated or Amazon - the manufacturer DOES NOT RECOMMEND MACHINE WASHING THEM, but instead wiping them clean with a damp cloth. They don't specifically give a reason for this, but I suspect the flame/stain/water repellent property of these mitts is a "coating" on the fabric that would wash out in a machine.

After doing a lot of research, I bought 4 'Ove Gloves, but they got too hot frequently. I then bought 4 of the flameguard mitts. They work very well, A little stiff, but they may soften up with more use. Length is good, I have small hands and there's not a lot of excess past my fingers. Not the prettiest I've ever seen, but we need them for protection, not decoration. I would buy them again.

This is a great long oven mitt. i can reach pretty far back into the oven without fear of getting burned.

I purchased three of these oven mitts based on the reviews. My experience was not positive. I took out a pizza pan from the oven and before I could set it down I felt the hot pan through the mitt almost immediately. I have to use another pot holder and then the mitt.

I had been looking for a decent oven mitt and thought that these would fill the bill. After using them for only two weeks, one had stitiching that split and it now has a large hole that makes it dangerous to use. I did want a "large" mitt but these are not only large, they are extremely "stiff". I found that I was reaching for towels to use instead many times. The company did respond quickly to a problem with the order and I was pleased with their response. However, I have to say that I would not recommend these mitts. I will have to continue to look for a better product.
