Not the Original Recordings,
By A Customer
This review is from: Pasadena & Lost Cylinders (Audio CD)
Although this is the original Temperance Seven, the recordings are not the original ones which made the group famous. Hits like "Pasadena", "Sugar" and "You're Driving Me Crazy" lack the brisk, confident quality of the original recordings. A big disappointment.

Sheer nostalgic bliss,

Before the Parlophone recordings became available on CD, this marvellous collection by the classic line-up of the Temperance Seven was released. Throughout his career with the band, the trombone player John R T Davies (alias Sheik Haroun of Wadi el Yadounir) diligently recorded their performances, and as he is a perfectionist, these, selected as the best from his huge archive, are of fully professional quality. There are songs that, as far as I know, have never before been released by the Temps, such as 'From Russia with Love' and 'Thoroughly Modern Millie', a rendition of 'Ukulele Lady' with Whispering Paul McDowell on vocal (previously released recordings featured the vocal talents of Peter Sellers and Captain Cephas Howard, but not together), and a whole raft of excellent recordings that compare delightfully with the Parlophone releases. Any admirer of the Temperance Seven must surely fall in love with 'Pasadena and the Lost Cylinders'.
