But Rafael Morin's exemplary rise from a poor barrio and picture-perfect life hides more than one suspicious episode worthy of investigation. While pursuing the case in a decaying but adored Havana, Conde confronts his lost love for Tamara and the dreams and illusions of his generation.

Si lo que busca el lector en la novela Pasado Perfecto es una narración cargada de misterio y de un desenlace sorprendente,se va a sentir defraudado porque no lo va a encontrar. Todo lo contrario, se va a tropezar con una novela donde lo importante es la vida de los personajes atrapados en una ciudad que no ofrece futuro.Lo importante de la novela es como Padura analiza la vida de Mario Conde,teniente de la policia, en relacion con sus amigos del Pre y la corrupcion general de la sociedad en que vive. Posiblemente sea una de las mejores novelas escritas sobre la sociedad cubana en estos ultimos años.
