On buying this, I was a bit skeptical of how it would perform and that was mostly because I could see that it was simply formed from stamped sheet steel. On the other hand, PVC is pretty soft and there was a mention of this product on Ask This Old House a couple of months ago, so it must work as advertised to some degree.

For my particular problem, I had a drain wye piece that was installed backwards and caused all of the drains in the house to gurgle. Because the wye was installed within 0.5 inch of the other fittings, I needed this tool to be able to reuse the fittings on either side of the wye joint. Otherwise, I would have had to replace a section of PVC consisting of 15+ different fittings and it would have been a much larger job.

The rambit did perform as expected. A mains powered electric drill is pretty much required since most battery operated drills don't really have the oomph to spin this tool(mine did, but I went through batteries faster than I could charge them and ended up using a corded drill). A 3/8 inch drill is fine even though the packaging specifies that you need 1/2 inch drill - it'll just take slightly longer.

Overall I think this is a great product, but don't expect it to perform as a professional tool. For the odd job here or there, it works great, but I don't think it would last very long if you're a professional plumber expecting to use this tool several times per week.

this product works fantastic allows you to drill out PVC fittings and re-use the same fitting.

I went to the local orange home improvement store and asked if they sold this type of item as I am remodeling a bathroom but the drain pipe was cut so close that I had to bore the pipe or have to re-run both baths drains. aaaanyway the guy who "works" in the plumbing department said there wasn't such a tool, I assured him there was as I have seen one used on "This Old House". long storey short ended up searching on amazom and found exactly what I needed and saved myself a huge headache and tons of $$.

Oh, and the tool works perfectly. It is sold in many different sizes too. Worth every penny.

this bit worked great and saved me a lot of time. working in an old house isn't easy but this bit helps with the plumbing.
