Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Fun and inebriation abound between the covers of The El Paso Chile Company Margarita Cookbook. Running out of things to do with tequila? W. Park Kerr, founder of the El Paso Chile Company, offers dozens of drink (and a few food) recipes, each containing at least a little of the fiery elixir. From the Kentucky Club Margarita (the one we all know and love) to fancy margaritas containing Cointreau, Midori, and Curaçao, Kerr serves up drink ideas in an intoxicating Texas vernacular. Margarita 1 to 1 to 1--a blend of equal parts tequila, Cointreau, and lime juice--is touted as being tasty and easy to remember. "Although," Kerr warns, "if you're having memory problems, a cup of coffee might be the wiser choice." Any cocktail party worth its salt has snacks too, and a dozen or so tequila-imbued tapas and salsas are represented here. Try Grilled Chicken Tortas with Charred Tomato Salsa Borracho (which Kerr recommends eating outside, "at a table you can hose off afterward") for a delicious, if messy, accompaniment to your favorite distilled Mexican spirit. Spicy, alcoholic, and festive, The Margarita Cookbook is just the book to get your fiesta started. Cleaning up, unfortunately, is up to you. --David Kalil

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightfully distilled wisdom, from an expert host., September 15, 2000
This review is from: The El Paso Chile Company Margarita Cookbook (Hardcover)
After all the gushing about the photos -- okay, they're great -- somebody needs to point out how good the recipes are! Park Kerr offers a wealth of information, in an easy-to-read format. With guests literally walking through the door, I was able to whip up a huge batch of frozen margaritas with next to no effort -- one guest, who has some expertise in these matters, can't stop raving about them -- "By far the best I've ever had," he says. (Kerr's secret ingredients made all the difference.) As with all good cookbooks, this one gives you loads of tips and tricks that make a good recipe ten times more interesting and fun. You get clear explanations about the various grades of tequila, so there's no confusion when you're facing a dizzying array of bottles at the liquor store. All in all, a tight, concise, well-informed guide that is presented with real panache. It's the next best thing to crossing the bridge to Ciudad Juarez, headed for the Kentucky Club on a Friday night. Hats off to Park Kerr, and, yes, a tip of the lens cap to Duane Winfield.

4.0 out of 5 stars nice coffee table book, October 22, 2003
This review is from: The El Paso Chile Company Margarita Cookbook (Hardcover)
This is a gorgeous book, but it hasn't been as usefull as I was hoping. There are many odd kinds of margaritas in here, which is great if that's what you like. But there was only one regular margarita recipe, and it was the kind I was hoping for. If you just look up recipes online, you're more likely to find the recipe you're looking for, since this one only has about 10 recipes. But as a coffee table book, it's perfect!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, November 7, 2007
This review is from: The El Paso Chile Company Margarita Cookbook (Hardcover)
I have made plenty of the drinks in this book and they are all fantastic. occaisonally i added a little more lime juice or sugar for my own tastes but this book is great. even the food recipies are great. I tried out the bar-b-que sauce.....i don't think i've ever danced a jig before over bar-b-que sauce. i highly reccomend this book. the only drawback would be that there aren't pictures for every single recipie, but there are plenty to make up for it.
