Book Description

March 2004
Timeless, limitless images--monumental 14 x 20 inch platinum photographs -- of one of the world’s most mystical places by a renowned artist. More than any other photographer, Izu has made over thirty visits to the sacred Cambodian site of Angkor Wat. And, like the makers of the sacred image of Buddha, who utter three prayers for each stroke of the carving tool, Izu himself considers the act of picture-making a type of divine practice. His photographs capture essence and light. Of his famous photograph of Tibet's Kailash in which the snowy peak is seen in otherworldly light, he recently said the image was a ""gift from God."" The photos are accompanied by the poetry of Helen Ibbitson Jessup, inspired by Izu’s work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Large Format Camera Captures the Mystery of Sacred Places, April 17, 2010
This review is from: Passage to Angkor (Hardcover)
Kenro Izu makes his living as a commercial photographer in NYC. For relaxation and his own well being twice a year he travels to far away places with his heavy, custom-made 14 X20 inch view camera. He limits himself to two sheets of film per day and often will spend days composing a single photograph. He contact prints his pictures as platinum prints with variations. He was so touched with what he discovered in Cambodia that he helped set up a hospital for children in the area where there was none. (See my customer pictures of Kenro Izu speaking at Boston University that are posted on this book listing site).
