How does she do this?,
This review is from: Passage of Time (Audio CD)
Liz is an unbelievable talent. Her voice is so clear and soothing. She really tells the story in her songs and you feel the thoughts and message she conveys in each number. When I am down, I just listen to Make Someone Happy/Something Wonderful and Raindrops/Singing in the rain. It always makes the day better. This album is terrific! Also, a song not to miss which is on a different album, is Scott Alan's Goodnight. Liz is in top form and brings a tear to my eye every time I listen to it. She is simply a gem!

I've always been a huge fan of Liz Callaway, have all of her albums, and have searched in vain for a long time, hoping for a new cd. So I was thrilled when I saw this one on Amazon.I enjoyed this album very much, but for some reason wanted more. I guess some of the songs seem uninspired. However, that is just me. Her voice is perfection, as always, and most of the performances are dead on. If you're a fan, than you must have this album. It's definitely worth owning and listening to repeatedly.

BEAUTIFUL recording!,
This review is from: Passage of Time (Audio CD)
If you already know Liz Callaway, you know she is a marvelous singer, with a pure, versatile way of singing. This collection is so beautifully arranged, with intelligent pairings that enhance the songs involved ("Make Someone Happy/Something Wonderful"; "I'm Not That Girl/Just Another Face"; "Raindrops Keep Fallin'/Singin' in the Rain"; "The Perfect Year/Memory"), and a glorious duet with Liz's sister Ann Hampton Callaway. I was going to write more, but I've got no time and, really, every cut is just fantastic, all infused with that characteristic ps classics excellent quality. GET this!

Little Liz Has Grown Up,
This review is from: Passage of Time (Audio CD)
I've followed Liz Callaway's career from the very beginning. She was always talented and a pleasure to listen to, but on this album she demonstrates how she has become a mature artist, able to make each song her own. Several of the songs on this recording have been re-covered more than my grandfather's old side chair, but Liz breathes life and nuance into them. This disc is an absolute pleasure from beginning to end. If you're not already a Liz Callaway fan, you will be after the first listen.

Beautiful album. Liz retains her crystalline voice. Her reading is as effective as ever. Choice of material is once again impeccable.

Wow! Liz Callaway seems to be going strong with her latest CD - Passage of Time. It seems like there has been a slight lag in time between recordings for Liz - but this gem was well worth the wait. It is so wonderful to once have Liz's warm voice fill me. The songs do bring back many memories - both good and sad of times gone. Yes, there are a few favorites for me - her recording of Eleanor Rigby is sensational as well as the following track "I'm Not That Girl/Just Another Face". This is one lady who knows how to interpret a song! So beautiful. So, I guess the NYC croud will be in for a treat when she starts (or maybe she already is) touring the club scene. Congrats to Liz on yet another beautiful recording. Yea!- Chris.

Following on her recordings so far, there is not one that has not been produced and delivered with utmost artistry and care. Every song a jewel of phrasing, diction and interpretation. Liz -- and sister Ann Hampton! -- are American treasures. And for that, I would pay tribute to their parents' genes.

Utterly Amazing!,

Utterly Amazing!Listening to this CD is more than listening to a collection of songs, it is an experience. Passage of Time is the perfect title for this CD which feels more like a perfectly constructed novel. I have been so disheartened by the shows running on B-way, that I have stopped going altogether; listening to this CD has given me a glimmer of faith that there is gifted and intellectual talent out there. Everything from Liz's vocals, to the mixing, and masterful arrangements are flawless. There are several melodies on the CD and all have been brilliantly constructed; two examples are: I am not that girl/Just another face and Rain drops keep falling on my head/Singin in the Rain. Everyone knows Liz has an amazing set of pipes, but one thing Liz does not do on any of the tracks is over sing these songs (which includes Memory). I cannot say enough about the arrangements and orchestrations; one of my favorites is Secret O'Life; the arrangement goes perfectly with Liz's delivery and I love the use of the guitar. Liz, thank you for the perfect Christmas present.

I was quite pleased with this purchase and listened to the CD several times over as Liz Callaway is an incomparable vocalist and stylist. Having seen her on stage, it is a great pleasure to sit back and listen to her talent. My favorite of the songs is the opening track Nothing to Lose. If you're a fan or just want to listen to an amazing artist, this is an excellent CD. Someone really needs to write a show for this artist.

Liz Callaway is in great shape on this CD! She sings beautifully and I could never tire of hearing her perform ballads like the ones we get here. The quality of the sound is excellent and I love that artwork.Liz handles these tunes with panache and I'm very impressed. "Nothing to Lose (But Your Heart)" shows her voice as clear as a bell and that percussion rounds out the music perfectly. The piano is also used well in the musical arrangement. The medley of "Make Someone Happy" and "Something Wonderful" shines bright in Liz's capable hands; this is a fine highlight of this CD. Liz delivers this medley with great sensitivity and that's grand. Other fine medleys include "I'm Not That Girl" which is matched with "Just Another Face" and the gorgeous "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" with Singin' in the Rain." Liz also does a superb job with her rendition of The Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby;" she never misses a beat and the music fits faultlessly with her vocals. This is done at a slower pace than I'm used to hearing but it certainly grows on me every time I hear Liz do it. Liz's sister Anne Hampton Callaway teams up with her for their version of Carly Simon's masterpiece, "That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be;" and it all holds its own very well. "A Child Is Born" charms me with its natural beauty; and the album ends very well with Liz Callaway performing "Being Alive." Liz Callaway released something special with this CD. I highly recommend this for Liz's fans and people who enjoy easy listening pop will not be disappointed. |
