This review is from: Passages to the Presidency: From Campaigning to Governing (Paperback)
"Passages to the Presidency" provides interesting insight into the transition process, as a candidate moves from campaigning for the presidency to actually governing on Day 1. Clearly, this is a vital part of assuming the job of President of the United States: Jones argues that it is often overlooked, as it is a time where presidents can either make or break their term. Following is a list of PROs and CONs in this work:

Pros:

-Extensive source material/testimony from recent campaign aides and officials detailing what went wrong/succeeded in the recent party-change transitions.

-Clearly proposes that choosing a chief-of-staff is key: often, president-elects choose to fill up their Cabinet before their staff, often to their detriment.

-Clear, concise reasoning with graphs, charts, and figures supporting the author's conclusions.

Cons:

-This work clearly needs updated, lacking information on both the Clinton-Bush transition and the Bush-Obama transition.

Overall, this is an interesting insight as to the importance of transition management that draws upon extensive source information. It does, however, need updated, yet it still remains insightful.
