4.0 out of 5 stars Greater evidence of the depth of Pat Metheny as an artist
Depth. That is the word that comes to mind when thinking about Pat Metheny and his music. This recording was a pleasant surprise. 3.0 out of 5 stars Bland -- neither poor nor wonderful
Pat Metheny has been unfortunate in his choice of movies to write soundtracks for. None has been a blockbuster -- well, not here in the UK, anyway. I'm not even sure whether 'Passagio' or 'Map of the World' have been released here.

But, the excellent 'Falcon and the Snowman' apart, Pat hasn't helped his bid for a really juicy movie contract. No-one can pretend that...

4.0 out of 5 stars Greater evidence of the depth of Pat Metheny as an artist, August 31, 1998

Depth. That is the word that comes to mind when thinking about Pat Metheny and his music. This recording was a pleasant surprise. Having not heard much about it I figured it was one to be brushed under the rug. But I was pleasantly wrong. Thought not as "catchy", perhasp, as several of the latest PMG offerings, Pasdsagio Per Il Paradiso is a lush, satisfying suite of themes. Like some of the softer selections from Falcon and the Snowman, the tome is reflective and introspective, aside from a pulsating, optimistic closing. The playing is solid, the sounds are familiar, wth emphasis on the Synclavier. No, not a ground breaker, but I like this album because it offers me a more complete picture of Pat Metheny as a composer and an instrumentalist. I can almost see pitcures from the movie (which I have not yet seen) when listening to this recording. That, to me, is the sign of an effective soundtrack recording. I think we'll hear more movie music from Pat in the future. It suits him. It suits me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, October 8, 1998
By A Customer
If you really liked 'Secret Story', you'll love this one. It's a really 'quieting and making you calm' kind of music. It makes you realize Pat is not only a wild jazz artist from the together-with-Scofield era, but also an artist who knows a handful of different styles of music and places them in the midst of all his musical ideas. It's the same kind of music you'll be able to also find on 'Imaginary Day'

4.0 out of 5 stars Gentle into the Night (Passagio per il Paradiso), February 3, 2000

This is a great soundtrack by a fabulous musician. I highly recommend watching the film. It's english title is "Gentle into the Night". You can't help but appreciate the genius and expertise that went into composing for this movie. The pieces reflect the various themes and characterizations in the film. The "main title" and it's various treatments are a joy to listen to.

A terrific mellow side of Pat Metheny. If you liked the soundtrack for Map of the World, you will love this CD.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bland -- neither poor nor wonderful, June 7, 2001

Pat Metheny has been unfortunate in his choice of movies to write soundtracks for. None has been a blockbuster -- well, not here in the UK, anyway. I'm not even sure whether 'Passagio' or 'Map of the World' have been released here.

But, the excellent 'Falcon and the Snowman' apart, Pat hasn't helped his bid for a really juicy movie contract. No-one can pretend that Pat is a great piano or drums player, and yet he plays both here. Indeed electronic keyboards dominate this album, as they do on so many of today's soundtracks. Why is it that when most movies cost over $20 million to make, the producer tries to get his soundtrack on the cheap, by bypassing the use of an orchestra?

Pat needs either Lyle Mays or Charlie Haden to bring out the best of his extraordinary compositional talents, and sadly neither are employed here.

I'm sure if I had been able to see the film, I would appreciate this CD much more. But I'm not altogether surprised that this CD is available only on import. For Geffen to decide not to release the album in this country, given Metheny's huge fan base, the label must have had a very low opinion of the soundtrack.

I was looking through Amazon.com and found this CD,another
Pat cd!!!! Wow!!! I had read it was compared Pat's solo album.
This is good , that Pat plays all the instruments, the bad thing is it has a re-occuring line that is heard all the way through this CD,which kinda gets old. I commend Pat for playing all the instruments, but just does not have that "Metheny magic" as displayed in other CDs................

Pat Metheny goes places in this CD that to me, can only be described as my inner sanctum. All I can say is thanks to my Higher Power for the work He does on my soul through Pat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Musica per il cinema o viceversa?, October 24, 2000
