Book Description

August 24, 2007
Perhaps it s the excitement of flying, maybe the fear or just maybe the fact that you are in a metal tube with hundreds of other people but flying brings out the best and worst in us all. Years of flying has reinforced to the authors that many of the bad passengers fit into 10 major species, with a few sub species. Look around a boarding lounge and you can spot them in an instant. There is Carry-on Greedicus who will be sitting in row 60 and dumps his bag in row 5's overhead storage space so he doesn't have to lug it all the way to the back of the plane and Bladder Incredibilus who spends the whole flight making trips to the toilet, stumbling over your feet and interrupting your meal. What about Armrest Grabbis who constantly hogs the armrest, invading your personal space and making you sit in your seat straight-armed like a tin soldier while sucking in your breath? And Maximus Reclinus who reclines the seat immediately on takeoff and leaves it that way for the entire flight! Those passenger types are only part of your journey. There are the challenges of check-in, security- where you made to strip virtually naked and then the take-off which has many saying a few prayers. Passengers Who Make Your Flight Hell, will take you on a humorous journey where we have a look at the lighter side of flying and all our quirkiness and tendency to behave badly. And through photographs the book also looks at the lighter side of flying through the years, where some passengers were able to go outside to get some fresh air, or open windows to wave to friends or the times when every passenger was wearing pearls or in a business suit. Those same photos will also bring the more dramatic side of aviation to life in whimsical way. If you love flying or even if you hate it we hope you will find something amusing, ridiculous or bizarre to bring a smile to your face.

It had a few cute stories and cartoons, overall I was disapointed. I expected more cartoons. I am really glad I bought it from Amazon at about 1/3 the normal selling price. Save your money. Bob S.

5.0 out of 5 stars If You've Got a Long Flight Ahead of You, This Will More Than Pass the Time, May 3, 2008

This review is from: Passengers who make your flight hell (Paperback)
This is a sensational collection of both true stories as well as urban myths that may or not be true, told by various air hostesses, pilots, security people and other airline personnel about the idiots and selfish people who fly as passengers in our skies. With four different authors compiling the info inside there's different styles throughout the chapters, all are well written (although the author who wrote Chapter 7 - Passengers Behaving Badly for some reason also adds one or two lines of their own comments under the funny passenger incidents that I'm sure in their senior citizen world may be funny but most readers will just roll their eyes and start to ignore after the first few). Along with lots of great passenger from hell tales we also have a number of cartoons by John Cheevers which are quite good along with a number of photos of planes in weird positions or landing badly with thought balloons added. Thought balloons and captions have also been added to historic brochure advertisements which originally were trying to pursuade airlines to add features such as dining rooms and lounges to their airplanes. Apart from being very amusing these are also interesting to see what yesteryear thought would appeal to passengers.

The authors have also categorised the passengers you do not want sitting next you and hopefully will not be able to identify yourself as being a member of.

Reclinus maximus - annoying selfish people who recline their seats for no reason for the whole flight.

Armrest grabbis - the usually obese passneger who takes over their fellow passengers seats and personal space by putting their arms all over or worse putting the armrests up.

Bladder incredibilus - the passenger who gets up over and over again to use the bathroom, or messes up the bathroom and drinks and drinks and drinks so they'll need to more often

Carry on Greedicus - passenger who seating at the rear of the plane puts their bags in the overheads of rows near the front.

Carry of Humungus - idiot passenger who brings on board items too big to fit in overhead lockers.

High and Mighticus - Passenger who demands everything and treats the call button as a person personal hotline to their slave (flight attendant)

DVI Avoidus - Passenger who insists on doing exercises throughout the entire flight. no matter how many passengers they disturb getting out of their seats and while exercising.

Parentus Slapdashi - Passenger who brings kids on board but takes no responsibility for their bad behaviour expecting the airline staff and other passengers to be child minders.

Smellus Incredibulus - Passenger with vile and offensive odours

Terrofidus Absolutum - Passenger that causes massive delays or annoys the rest of the plane by closing window blinds and reacting to every small bit of turbulence.

So are you one of these, you'll have to read and find out.
