5.0 out of 5 stars Review of Passing the Drivers Test, August 18, 2000

This review is from: Passing the Driver's Test [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Here is finally a video that deals directly with a drivers test by putting the viewer in a simulated examination situation. Most of the possible events that occur during a real examination are included to illustrate what someone can expect during the exam.

The video starts with arriving at the exam center. At the beginning of the video, you will meet an examiner (played by an actor) who proceeds to test a candidate for a driving license. Passing the Driver's Test takes the driver from the examination parking lot to different streets and situations encountered during typical driving examinations.

Good editing makes watching Passing the Drivers Test an enjoyable experience. It is not like sitting in a video classroom. It is not a long video (23 minutes) so you will not feel bored or overwhelmed. Repeated viewings will allow potential candidates to pick up "minor" driving details often overlooked (except by the examiner) and help one to visualize the actual exam. Each time a significant event occurs such as slowing down in school zones, making proper lane changes, or making sure the vehicle comes to a full stop at the proper time, graphics and editing will "alarm" the viewer to the importance of such an event. The narrator reminds the viewer of similar events throughout the simulated exam and points out most laws of motor vehicle driving that one will encounter to ensure the candidate follows the rules of the road. You could use the video to practice your own driving skills by putting yourself through the same paces as the candidate in the video. You will see the candidate handle situations such as city streets and highway driving, parallel parking, turning, and lane changes.

I would not use this video as a replacement for driving school lessons. It has great instruction and should be used as a reference much the same as a book or study notes. The narrator makes it very clear at the start of video that this is a supplement to other training and preparations for your exam. This is not surprising given that watching a movie will not replace hands-on training.

I have not found any other video like Passing the Drivers Test to prepare someone to take the exam. I purchased this video for my daughter to prepare for her exam. I watched it myself, and I believe anyone young or old who is about to attempt a drivers test for the first time should watch this video. You can experience a driving exam in the comfort of your home away from the stress of an examination center on the day of the test. Considering the stress and inconvenience of failing a driver's test, all preparations to the test should be considered. Along with proper driving instructions by a qualified driving school, experiencing Passing the Drivers Test is not one to be missed, prior to taking your exam. It will help ensure your first attempt to pass the exam will be your only one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great and Informative Video, May 23, 2001
By A Customer

After taking about 29 driving lessons than viewing this video my last driving instructor said to me, you are ready to take the test. That comment only came after I watched this video. Before that all I heard was, you are not ready. After 18 months of trying. This video made me calmer in my approach to passing the test. Which I did on May 12, 2001. I am certain this video played a very important part in that. Thank you for such a great tape. I highly recommend this for anyone wishing to pass the driving test.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well filmed and to-the-point, March 7, 2003

Even though this video was geared toward Canadian drivers and is filmed in Canada, almost all the rules you learn in this video will apply in the United States as well. The only thing that is different would be the speed limit rules, which are in kilometers. I especially liked the good editing and directness of the video's tone. Also, being only about 20 minutes long, you can rewatch the video again and again and easily have the rules well memorized.
