From Library Journal
Self-taught artists create imagery from their own internal motivations rather than according to some academy style, producing art that is generally considered outside the mainstream. Rather than analyzing their works, Prince has visited and interviewed 21 artists offering a view into their unique and often very private lives. He focuses on the details that move these artists to create. Each entry is ten to 12 pages, containing several color examples of the artist's work. Some of the nonacademics included are Karolina Danek, Ray Librizzi, Ci Ci Saussy, and Danny Dowler. Regrettably, biographical data is not included. Still, this is recommended for specialized art collections particularly because it identifies artists of this genre not noted in other standard sources concerning self-taught artists.
