Book Description

Passion will bring them together...but pride may rip them apart.

Dashing aristocrat Evan Blake has seduced some of London's most beautiful women, but he has one ironclad rule: never touch a servant, because she must say 'yes' or risk losing her livelihood.

That rule is sorely tested the day Marian Willows comes to work at Blakewood Manor.

Mischievous, smart, and independent, Marian challenges everything Evan thought he knew about women, life, and love.

But reality cannot be ignored. Master and servant, aristocrat and commoner...even as passion unites them, society's rules and the couple's own prideful natures tear them apart.

When Marian's life is in danger, will Evan risk everything he has - his money, his title, his life - to save the woman he loves?

Set in England and Paris during the years of the French Revolution, PASSION AND PRIDE is about illicit desire, forbidden romance, and a love that conquers all.

83,000 words. Warning: contains several very explicit sensual scenes.

1.0 out of 5 stars Just too choppy and slow December 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I love the idea of a an aristocrat falling for servant, But then he turns out to be a wimp, and she a slut. He pines ruined for all Women for two years, and she sleeps around in Paris. Too many Chapters create a choppy story, I found myself skimming just to get to the end, which was predictable, no surprises, I have a feeling all the good reviews are friends of the writer. I did like the part when he got put down with his own words, Pemberly would have made a good spin off character except she made him look like a troll.

5.0 out of 5 stars At last--equality! October 5, 2012
By Whoever
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This novel is not only set during the French Revolution, it embodies one of its concepts--equality--although not in the way the French intended: the heroine of the story is as sexual as the hero. If you're as sick as I am of the imbalance between rakes who've tapped everything and virgins who've never been kissed, you're going to love this story! Yes, I know the whole rake-and-virgin thing was more appropriate to the time period, but since when do we want to read about the average people? That's why I'm delighted whenever I read a story that turns the situation on its head--a sexual heroine, a virgin hero, a lovelorn female who doesn't waste away in her lonely bed but fills it with new lovers. There's no virginal hero in this one, but you get my point. The spice and suspense are top-notch, the writing is very good, the plot is innovative, and I'm eagerly awaiting Ms. Nolan's next novel!

1.0 out of 5 stars Trivial Oversexed Nonsense December 4, 2012
By Creeker
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Poor writing, poor background, no sense of the issues of the time and too much time in the bedroom or the activities intende for it. I was very disapponted.

1.0 out of 5 stars Passion & Pride's Afterward December 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This was a bit of an uneven tale. The basic love story was compelling and had the somewhat unusual twist of the man pining away; however, there were a few character developments and plot points never fully developed (or that disappeared altogether). I would rate the story 2.5-3 stars.

But even the aforementioned, in addition to the occasional crudeness during graphic sex, weren't as offputting as the author's Afterward. To have even a fledgling author tell her readers "I'm not the greatest researcher" and to ask them to e-mail her any "period" errors they may have discovered (regarding titles, events, etc.) is unbelieveable. If the author doesn't want to take time to do the research and/or hire a competent editor, perhaps she shouldn't be a writer (at least of historical pieces). Whether this was a "fishing for compliments" attempt, or a honest plea for assistance, it doesn't matter. This freshman effort now rates a 1 with me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Story, Not A Typical Woman of the Time! October 23, 2012
By A
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Who cares if the woman is not a shrinking virgin? This was a wonderful, imaginative story! Women of any time period can be independent and strong.
This book is very different from the formulaic master/servant girl historical.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read!!! October 19, 2012
By Lynda
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have to say that I'm surprised to have learned at the end of the book that this is the authors first book. I can't wait to see how wonderful her next book will be.

I couldn't put the book down. It was just so well written, i've read a few historical romances and this is one of my new favourites.

I will recommend this book to my friends and family and of course to all you reading this review it's a must read no doubt about it.

Give the free sample a try and I bet you'll be buying the book in no time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly executed November 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am shocked this has such excellent reviews. I am not a fan. First, I often have a problem with the maid who marries the millionaire type books. I usually can't buy into them. I especially didn't like this book because of the overly strong heroine who is commanding, domineering and has little to recommend her. The main characters fell in love at first sight (not believable) and then came the lusty encounters which read like cheap porn and lacked any kind of romance. Then our heroine leaves and becomes a rather slutty courtesan in France which made me further dislike her character. Neither character made me want to get to know them better!

The setting is interesting though the entire plot takes place halfway through the book and I kind of wondered if the first half of the book and the second half could have been somehow better portrayed. It was more like, fast forward a year. Just not believable. No rich dialogue or storytelling. Smut, base and vulgar.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lack of research sink this book February 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I received this book free from BookBub.

I love historicals, as anyone who knows me can attest. I liked the blurb for Passion and Pride, so all was well. Until I read the first few pages. Since I can't find a publisher listed, I can only assume this is another foray into self-publishing that went desperately wrong on many levels.

After putting in many hours of research for my historicals, I tend to notice glaring problems in authenticity. In this book, there are many. Despite many sites that simply require a simple search, the author did not do her research with reference to proper forms of address. In the afterward, she admits that she isn't the greatest researcher and that readers should email her "to save your fellow readers from my faults!" Seriously? How insulting and cavalier.

We have Baron Phineas Blake. His son goes by the last name Blake, which clued me in to the fact that Blake was the surname and not the title name. Phineas would not be Lord Blake, but would adopt the title name, ie: Phineas Blake, The Right Honorable Lord Rothchild (or whatever.) Likely the estate would be Rothchild (or whatever)Manor, Hall, Estates, etc., and not Blakewell, as it would be entailed and therefore would belong to the title and not to any particular man.

Then we have another character, the Marquis of Ashford. This surname is Pemberly. The author refers to him as Lord Pemberly, which is incorrect. He would be Lord Ashford. There may be more, but I gave up any hope of accuracy.

Easily researched by googling proper forms of Address. I did that for her here: [...]
If you are writing a historical, and using titled nobility as characters, your FIRST obligation is to research proper forms of address.

More About the Author

Hello, everyone! I write under the pen name Olivia Thorne because I come from a very straitlaced, very conservative family, and I think they would have a heart attack if they knew what I wrote.

But that's okay...because I secretly enjoy being naughty...and I enjoy being 'secretly naughty,' too!

I write contemporary romance and erotic romance with strong heroines, hot, sexy heroes, and a cast of funny minor characters.

My first series is a serial novel called The Billionaire's Seduction, which starts with ALL THAT HE WANTS (which you can currently get for free on Amazon!). The individual parts are shorter than a regular novel, but get progressively longer as the series continues.

Also, I've written the spicy historical romance PASSION AND PRIDE under my pen name Amelia Nolan.
