Book Description

August 1, 1998
Tamara de Lempicka captured the whirlwind decade of the 1920s on canvas, painting (and charming) the rich and famous of Europe in Art Deco portraits.

The threat of a second world war sent Tamara packing to America, where she reveled among the famous in Hollywood and the wealthy of New York. In the 1970s she was rediscovered when a gallery owner in Paris mounted a retrospective of her work, and today paintings that were unsellable for three decades fetch many hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Much of the story of de Lempicka's amazing life is told in moving detail by her daughter, whose recollections are amplified by anecdotes from others who knew the artist. The book is illustrated by dozens of photographs from Tamara's personal album and by 50 full-color reproductions of her evocative paintings.

3.0 out of 5 stars unfortunately not totally respecting the truth, May 24, 1998
By A Customer
Kizette did a novel out of an epic romance. Her mother's life deserved a more vivid and somehow "honest" report. I was very close to Tamara in her latest period of life, spent with her many hours, mostly happy moments.

I am now treasuring in my heart the blessing of having met her .

I had the great honor to receive Tamara's ashes and keep company to those noble remains untill scatered on the Popo.

Kizette was somehow too fast and inaccurate describing her mother's last years leading to her tragic departure. Lots of extremely interesting things happened, deserving a more in-depth coverage also for the pleasure of the readers!

If anybody is interested to know more of the Tamara I knew and that still is alive into my heart, including those significant last moments, feel free to contact me on my email.

4.0 out of 5 stars A wonderfully easy to read biography!, November 29, 1998
I wrote a paper on Ms. de Lempicka for my art history class and found that this book was the most informative as far as her childhood and rise to fame was concerned. I too thought it lacked when it came to the late years of her life, but it was a wonderfully easy book to read, especially when you hate to read biographical writing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tamara De Lempicka, February 2, 2007

This review is from: Passion by Design: The Art and Times of Tamara De Lempicka (Paperback)
This is basically a biography of De Lempicka by her daughter and a few acquantances. It is a very complete biography of the artist. There are quite a few color reproductions of her work. They are not terribly large and there are probably better books out there in that regard. If your focus is the artist, I would highly recommend this book. If high quality reproductions are your focus, I might consider another book.
