Book Description

May 31, 2007 Inspector Ikmen Mysteries
A killer with means but no motive, and the body count is rising! A serial killer is stalking the streets of Istanbul. A man is found dead in a hotel room, a single stab wound in his heart. Could he be a victim of the "Peeper," a murderer whose target up until now has been gay men? The body of the man is delivered to forensics, but it is entirely clean. Has someone tampered with it? Inspector Mehmet Suleyman finds himself under increasing pressure from his contact at the Turkish Secret Service to keep his findings to himself. Meanwhile a young carpet dealer, on the brink of a huge sale, is found dead in the mangled remains of his Jeep. The deal would have made him—the carpet he wanted to sell used to belong to Lawrence of Arabia. Inspector Cetin Ikmen finds out that just as the carpet's rich history is stained by bloodshed, so the young man hides a sinister and deadly secret!

5.0 out of 5 stars A passion for mystery, May 7, 2009

A Passion For Killing is a fantastic read. On top of that it is an outstanding window of Istanbul, Turkey. Barbara Nadel does a great job of discribing Turkey, the life of Turks and Istanbul as a modern city, with all the good and bad things among us. Ms. Nadel is the 'Agatha Christie' of Turkish mystery. Her character development is uncompticated and she has captured life in Istanbul very, very well. It really makes you want to go to Turkey and have a glass of tea.

Barbara Nadel knows the heart of Istanbul in and out. Having lived in Turkey many years ago I love to read about the Turkish cafes, the people. I can feel and breath the air of the Covered Bazaars, the open fruit markets, the yogurt man selling yogurt.
The cobbled streets, the dolmush which is there wonderful taxi where you all pile in for one destination. I think she brings the city of Istanbul to life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read them all!, February 5, 2008
This review is from: Passion for Killing (Hardcover)
This is a great series.Cetin Ikmen is a wonderful character, and Nadel brings Turkey to life through her writing. I can hardly wait to see the Golden Horn. Highly recommended. I actually like this series better than Donna Leon's books, which are outstanding.
