A metal sculptor for over 30 years, Henry Harvey has created work that resides in public and private collections around the world. Now, with wit and style, Harvey divulges a rare, no-holds-barred accounting of his world of metal sculpting, from the lighting of a torch to techniques, patinas, strange commissions, peculiar customers, and as a candid insight to the genesis of his sculpture. A number of projects are illustrated and explained in exquisite detail, making this book an absolute must for everyone contemplating becoming a sculptor. But A Passion for Metal is much more than a how-to book. It is richly illustrated, its narrative offers rare insights into the creative process and the inner workings of the artist's mind. This visual and verbal feast book will be embraced by art historians, collectors, and budding sculptors alike.
Henry Harvey graduated from Franklin and Marshall College where he majored in Philosophy. He was accepted at Columbia Law...but...because of the draft lottery flew jets in the US Air Force instead. While working as an LES (launch enable) officer for the Titan II missiles at Davis Monthan AFB, he began sculpting in his spare time. Harvey, who has a number of US patents, began reluctantly following in his father, Frank Harvey's footprints and began writing novels as well as two books on his life as a sculptor. The first is A Passion for Metal by Schiffer Publishing. The second is A Universe of Metal Sculpture, also by Schiffer.
Harvey has also written Playing on the Black Keys, first in the trilogy about the fictitious town of Carver's Mill, PA. The second is Carver's Mill, and the third is Black Dog Gallery. Harvey wrote Saphos Assassin, a thriller, set in Key West Florida. He resides at CrossBow, his home in Bucks County, PA with his wife of 40 years, Pamela. His latest book, just being released now is 37 Cents a Fart...and Other Infamous Animal Stories...coming out in April 2012.
