2.0 out of 5 stars Major Disappointment!!!!!!
I was really looking forward to this album even though his now classic "Ready" album was released last year, but I have to say I was thoroughly disappointed. Trey is a true talent but I think his head is getting to big!!!! This album was obviously rushed to capitalized on the success of his last album. He needs to take some time off then come back harder if he wants to...

5.0 out of 5 stars One of His Best!, September 14, 2010
This review is from: Passion, Pain & Pleasure (Audio CD)
If you are a true Trey Songz fan then you will absolutely LOVE this album and if you are not then you will still love this album. Of course the album contains tracks Bottoms Up and Cant Be Friends but there are so many well written tracks on this CD! For Starters I purchased the DVD/CD combo from Target. The DVD/CD combo has him performing his songs from Ready to about 30 people. It's a very intimate setting. The DVD is about 30 minutes. I highly recommend getting that version because it's the Deluxe version and it's only available at Target but regardless, I would definitely get this album no matter where you get it because it's that hot. Trey Songz is so talented and you can tell by this album that he's growing as an artist. I didn't have his album Ready but purchased many of the Mp3's. I went back out and purchased Ready because of this album. That's how nice the album is. You will not be disappointed at all. It's one of his best! I especially LOVE the Passion, Pleasure and Pain interludes. My favorite songs on the album are Love Faces, Massage, Bottoms Up, Can't Be Friends, Unusual (feat. Drake), Made to Be Together and Love Me Better. I haven't always been a Trey Songz fan, but I'm surely am now:)

4.0 out of 5 stars A Step Back from Ready..., September 14, 2010
This review is from: Passion, Pain & Pleasure (Audio CD)
Trey Songz has finally established his name in the R&B game, he has become a sex symbol in every sense and people are now getting to know Trey Songz betetr as an artist. His third album Ready was needless to say his BEST album or magnum opus. Ready was such a surprise which made it less of a hype which made me love it even more. The production on Ready was amzing and well thought out and Treys variety was spot on. However, while this new album isn't a bad one, it really can't compare to the previous album. Passion, Pain & Pleasure is a concept that showcases all the emotions of love in Treys eyes, which is a good concept but falls short. I like about half of the songs on the album, but the other half has yet to fully grasp me, to me this is an album that doesn't get you right away but can learn to love later on.

1) Here We Go Again (Interlude) - A terrible start to the album. I mean this is not a good way to start an "R&B" album. Panty Droppa was a sick intro to Ready but this intro gives you an idea of what Trey's mentality with this album is. It's too Hip Hop. 0/5

2) Love Faces - This should have started the album just fine instead of the stupid interlude. Trey is back with his horny self and gets straight to the sex. The melody is nice and sensual. Trey's vocals has improved and you can tell with this song. The song is about "in the moment" sex and is perfect Baby making music. 4/5

3) Massage - Trey has been highly compared to R. Kelly throughout the years and this song is a perfect example of why that remains to be said. This song is vintage R. Kelly and Treys voice is wayyy too similar to R. Kelly with this joint. I love the beat to this song, its very relaxing and can take you to other wordly places if you let it. 4/5

4) Alone - I like that Trey has a pop side to him, which makes him very versitile compared to other R&B artists. This is a typical Trey Song and sounds like it belongs on Trey Day or something. I like the song but nothing special. 3/5

5) Bottoms Up feat. Nicki Minaj - The first time I heard this song, it took me a while to love it. But now that I have heard it multiple times I just love it. Although this is a party record and it doesn't showoff Treys singing ability its a very good record. Nicki Minaj makes an appearance with a very colorful and unforgettable verse. You gotta love the way he says COME HERE!!! hilarious. 5/5

6) Pain (Interlude) - Another reason why I believe this album is a stepback from Ready is the fact that the interludes aren't as musical as the ones on ready. These interludes do have a purpose but I believe that the interludes on Ready were like short songs with potential, and these interludes are just plain interludes. This interlude is pretty corny and very little singing cuz of Treys talking. 3/5

7) Can't Be Friends - This song is a masterpiece. This is easily the BEST song on Passion, Pain & Pleasure. The production, lyrics and feel of the record is just amazing. The song samples off a muscial piece from the movie Babel, and it is perfectly sampled thanks to Mario Winans. Anybody with a broken relationship can relate to this song at first listen, it can almost bring you to tears. 6/5

8) Please Return My Call - This is reminicent of Trey's old style from his Gotta Make It days. Has an old school R&B feel to it almost similar to Prince. Love the lyrics and Trey sings his ass off in this one. 5/5

9) Made to Be Together - I hate when Trey talks sometimes, it ruins the song and especially when it is not sex related. Again this is almost like another R. Kelly song so I can't really give Trey points for originality. It's a good song though. 4/5

10) Pleasure (Interlude) - Pleasure would have to be the best interlude of the album. This interlude would be a great song in my opinion, very nice and sexual. Trey hits the falsetto a couple of times. This is how his interludes should always be like. 5/5

11) Red Lipstick - A nice change from the rest of the rest of the album. This isn't your typical Trey song which is a good thing. It has a futuristic feel to it, and the subject matter isn't straightforward which is a plus. This song gives the album variety which I appreciate very much. 5/5

12) The Usual feat. Drake - Now we're back to the sex-driven Trey Songz we all know and love. This is almost I Invented Sex part. 2. This marks the second time he has collaborated with Drake and the combination is as great as R. Kelly and Jay-Z. The only flaw I have with this song are the uninspired lyrics Trey delivers, it gets tiresome about halfway through the song, thank god Drake comes in and saves it. The beat is the grittiest on the album thanks to Boi-1da. Trey and Drake should really think about making a collaboration album because this tag team never fails. 4/5

13) Doorbell - As much as I love Trey, this song is just plain corny. Song may like it but I personally don't think its that great. The beat is pretty cool but the constant ding dongs are just plain corny. 3/5

14) Passion (Interlude) - Not that great of an interlude. Again corny with too much talking from some ghetto hood rat. But at least Trey sings more on this interlude. 3/5

15) Unfortunate - Produced by Drakes long time collaborator Noah "40" Shebib this is the darkest song on this album. Not a typical Trey Song, but I'm a little iffy about this song. Its about being unfortunate with a girl where the love goes away. I don't really know if I like it or hate it. I don't completely skip this song, but this song can get boring. 3/5

16) Blind - The beat to this song is very popish which I like. I didn't really expect this kind of music from Trey which is very surprising. I just like the fact Trey is experimenting with different sounds. This is almost a rock sound for Trey but its not bad at all. I quite like this song. 4/5

17) You Just Need Me - Passion, Pain & Pleasure was a good R&B CD but I hope Trey does a little bit better with his next album. I was a little dissapointed with this album. When you compare it with Ready, there really is no comparison. The album ends with this song which has another Pop feel to it. I can almost imagine the Backstreet Boys or a boy band sing this. This isn't exactly how I would end the album but its not a bad song. 3/5

5.0 out of 5 stars Trey Songz at his Best!, September 16, 2010

I was apprehensive about listening to this album because I know how much I hated the last one he made. I mean, there were some highlights (the songs released to the radio) but the rest of the album was just about sex and that is a turn off for me. I like sex like the next person, but there has to be something else to sing about, right? So I saw this one in my Zune Marketplace and I though, heck, why not download it and sync it to my Zune and listen to it as I make my way to work (I take the bus, a lot of time to get the whole album in). So I found that I was not skipping songs! That is rare these days because there is a lot of trash being released (Linkin Park "A Thousand Suns"; that review is coming after this one). My favorite, the one that is repeating for me over and over again, is "Unfortunate". That was a 10 out of 10. The entire album for me averages 9.5 out of 10 which is really fantastic. It's listenable, the lyrics are not simple and annoying, and the beats are good. Does not sound low budget. If you like a nice R&B album, something that is going to become an instant classic, then pick up this album. And if you are apprehensive about buying music, then get the Zune Marketplace and pay 14.99 a month. If you want to know how to sync Zune music to your Ipod, then reply to this review with an email address and I will tell you. I am not downing Itunes, but Zune lets you hear albums, not 30 sec. snippets. Buy this album, you will never be sorry!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A REAL R&B album in an age of TRENDY music!, September 15, 2010
This review is from: Passion, Pain & Pleasure (Audio CD)
I'm gonna make this clear. Trey Songz, "Passion, Pain & Pleasure" is a definite classic, quality R&B album. This is impressive for the simple fact that we're in an age of trendy, bs music. From beginning to end, you can listen to this album straight through. That's hard to say for many of the R&B albums released as of late. What I really like is that this album truly shows his maturity level at this point in his career, not to mention the fact that the content truly reflects the title of the album. My personal favorites are 1)Love Faces (2)Massage (3)Please Return My Call (4)Made To Be Together (5)Red Lipstick (6)Doorbell (7)Blind (8)Can't Be Friends (9)You Just Need Me (10)Unfortunate and pretty much the entire album lol.

To sum it up, this album is a must have for any true R&B fan looking for new talent that can actually live up to and match the quality music of the 90's. Also for true fans of trey. If you fit both categories(like myself), then this is PERFECT for you. You definitely can't go wrong with this one here!

P.S. I personally think this is better than "Ready"!

3.0 out of 5 stars Rushed album but still pretty decent, September 14, 2010
This review is from: Passion, Pain & Pleasure (Audio CD)
Last year with his third album READY, Trey Songz released his strongest album to date. With the singles Say Ahh, Your Side Of The Bed, I Invented Sex, Neighbors Know My Name and I Need A Girl all impacting radio in a major way; Mr. Songz easily became the crown prince of R&B for the twenty and under crowd. With his fourth album Passion, Pain & Pleasure, Trey continues to display top notch vocals and some sure fire slow jams. The album starts off with an unnecessary interlude but then goes right into the album's some of the album's strongest material. Were treated to back to back sexy slow jams "Love Faces" & the guaranteed concert song for the ladies "Massage". Followed by the filler track Alone and the lead single "Bottoms Up", Trey separates the rest into three sections Passion, Pain & Pleasure. Pain is he first section where Trey shows off some off his strongest singing to date. Following the "pain" interlude the Mario Winans produced Can't Be Friends (which isn't getting the radio play it deserves ), Trey shows future promise as an R&B balladeer. Please Return My Call is easily the strongest song on the album and is throwback to eighties R&B similar to the way Jahiem's single Finding My Way Back To Way was to 70's R&B. Made To Be Together closes out the pain section which is strong as well. Other than "Doorbell" I really didn't care for songs in the "pleasure" section as the production was kind of weak and the songs came off as more of leftover tracks from READY. In particular while listening to the Drake assisted "Unusual", I felt the song would be better suited for Jeremiah or Miguel. The album closes out with the "passion" section with the songs BLIND & Unfortunate being improvements over the entire "pleasure" section of the album. By no means is Passion, Pain & Pleasure a weak album, however it is rushed effort and it shows. Instead of sticking to a formula, Trey could have reunited with Stargate who gave one of his biggest hits Can't Help But Wait for some stronger ballads or even hooked up with his mentor R. Kelly . Furthermore Trey is at point in his career where he could work with classic producers such as Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis who could show off his true vocal talent. Regardless of how the general public reacts to this album by no means will become Trey washed up like his competition from three years ago J. Holiday & Lloyd due to the fact he'll be opening up for Usher on his OMG Tour. However, given that READY was seen as a classic by so many of his fans, the smart thing for Trey to do would have been to release an EP with all of the strong material from this album because then he would have a truly fine album, instead we are left with a rushed effort that doesn't show off Trigga's true talent.

I own all his albums, but this one is my favorite, my favs, & there are many is 3, 11, 12, 15, the one song where he is talking about red lip stick, I love it & track 15, I just leave that one on repeat. I commute to work 45minutes, & the whole way to work, track 15 played over & over again. Trey is my favorite R & B artist & he is improving with each album. Fantastic album, if you like his stuff you should love this. It made everything even better that I got the $3 discount from AMazon, & ended up only paying $4.99, for what is so far the best R & B album I have heard this year.

1.0 out of 5 stars overrated broke R.Kelly mini burger wanna be, March 18, 2011
This review is from: Passion, Pain & Pleasure (Audio CD)
trey got a decent voice, however he has no real songz, is real boring and he ain't ever gonna be in R.Kelly's musical league. Trey Songz is more closer to Ray J or Sammy than any R.Kelly. turkey talked that yang and ain't got no game to back up the real talk. he just does the same ole same. dude been around almost a decade and still ain't made nothing memorable. decent to good voice with half baked results.R.Kelly is like burger king to Trey Songz half a glove hamburger helper half a song self. trey outta just stick trbute spots on bet, because his albums are madd corny.
