More About the Author

Christy Strauch grew up in Mesa Arizona, where the Mexican food is to-die-for and the summer heat nearly that. When finally old enough, she traveled to Los Angeles for college to study. She just wasn't sure what. She graduated from Occidental College in four years, despite taking classes in almost every department.

In 1989, she tucked her MBA in finance and marketing from UCLA in her back pocket and went to work as a sales representative for IBM. She learned the well-researched, classic sales techniques IBM was famous for, and also learned how quiet, retiring techies could be irritated when legions of salespeople showed up for sales calls. It took five years to realize she should work for herself: to exercise complete control over how she served her customers, what products and services she offered, and how she talked about them. She left the comfort of IBM and joined a small IT company, became a partner, and fifteen years and three mergers later, took it public and sold it.

Finally in 2005, she took the plunge and started Clarity to Business.

She's always been a crusader, even a warrior, though she doesn't know how to shoot a gun or how to fight (except with words). Her crusade has been helping small business owners make money doing the work they love.

Christy has helped hundreds of small business owners create viable, prosperous businesses. They all excelled at the work itself--it was mastering the other half that held them back. When they became willing to look at their marketing, their numbers, their business plan, and their beliefs about money and success, miracles, monetary as well as spiritual, happened.

Your Marketing Personality: Marketing You Like is Marketing that Sells, along with her first book, Passion, Plan, Profit: 12 Simple Steps to Convert Your Passion into a Solid Business plus The Journey of the Small Business Warrior series, teach small business owners how to embrace the business of their life's passion.

She is a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC) and an Associate Certified Coach (ACC). She's worked with small business owners through the Phoenix, AZ, Management Technical Assistance program; the City of Mesa, AZ, Business Assistance Program; in addition to working with hundreds of other business owners across the US and Canada.

Her favorite places in the entire world are Easter Island, the Grand Canyon, and her own backyard. She still adores Mexican food.

Having your own business is said to be a part of the "American Dream". Even in these tough economic times, many people are still working toward having their own business. Actually, I've read that a financial recession can be the perfect time to lose a fortune -- but also the perfect time to make a fortune. So, is this the time for you to get serious about starting your own business?

I wanted my own business for years and started it about 10 years ago. But for years before and after that, I ran businesses for other people and learned something new on each and every job I had. Finally about 4 years ago I had the opportunity to focus on my business fulltime and I haven't looked back. This background and experience has been invaluable to me and I know there are many people out there who would like to have their own business.

The thing about my business is that I love what I do -- the creative outlet, the ability to help others grow their business and seeing the results we get - all make this something I love to do. Having a business of my own that I love is not something I take for granted and there are many other people who would like to have the same opportunity. That is what Passion, Plan and Profit by Christy Strauch is about.

In the beginning of this book you will find sections that include: Read This Before You Begin, Caution, How to Use This Book, etc. I like to include these sort of sections to lay the groundwork in my non fiction books - be sure you read all of these sections. Then we move on to the heart of the book.

Section One - Why Are You In Business (Purpose, Vision, Mission and Value)

Section Two - How Are You In Business (Target Market, Strategies, Unique Selling Proposition, Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities and Threats)

Section Three - (Income, Expenses, Key Measurements)

Section Four - (Clarity)

Strauch covers so many great topics that all business owners or people who want to be business owners need to understand. But she doesn't stop there. In the back of the book you will find a business plan template, a checklist to track your progress, resources, the Footwork Calculator and Business Plan Review Processes - including monthly and quarterly reviews.

There are so many topics that business owners need to manage. All the sections of this book are valuable, but I was really impressed with the "Numbers" section. Not only does she explain the incomes and expenses, but she also included directions to help you estimate these numbers properly. Getting these estimates is critical to the success of any business and need to be calculated to complete a thorough business plan and to secure sufficient financing.

Another thing that I really like is that Strauch included a number of worksheets in the book. I love non fiction books that provide ways for the reader to interact and utilize the information. This book is highly recommended for people who want to start a business and especially people who want to start a business that incorporates something they love.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Path to Success February 28, 2010
Format:Paperback
I had the good fortune to use "Passion, Plan, Profit" to create the business plan for a start-up publishing company and its first two books. After answering the questions Christy Strauch provides in this process, I discovered that our new business was headed in a direction that wouldn't meet our own goals. Through the work of this book I gained clarity about my target market and what I wanted to deliver to them. After creating the new business plan our first book went through a complete re-write and is now in print--successfully communicating the information we intended to the ideal target group. Thanks, Christy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use and inspiring. March 15, 2010
Format:Paperback
I love this book! It is so reader-friendly. Designed to be used on your own, or in a group, each module builds on the next until you have a business plan/strategy. It is also well-written with no jargon or annoying gimmicks. So glad I found this tool.
