5.0 out of 5 stars MAKING YOU CLIMB THE WALLS OF PASSION AS YOU PLAY
I FIRST HEARD THIS ALBULM IN 1994 AND I FELL IN LOVE WITH IT. IT HAS TAKEN ALMOST TEN YEARS JUST TO RELOCATE THIS ALBUM AGAIN. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS THAT TEENA HAS MADE AND IT NEEDS TO BE RE-RELEASED. TEENA WILL MAKE YOU UNDERSTAND THE TRUE MEENING OF LOVE. SO IF YOU DON'T KNOW LOVE! THAT MEANS THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW TEENA MARIE.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Bit Surprising Considering
As long as I've been aware of Teena Marie this is an album that has always peaked my personal curiousity, mostly due to the legend surrounding it. Apparently after the release of her 1991 album Ivory Lady T,having had a child and in part because her music wasn't having the impact on the public it once had her lable Epic dropped her after an eight year relationship. Several...

5.0 out of 5 stars Teena Plays Her Passions, August 2, 2005

All I can say, is anyone who is a true Teena Marie Fan should have this cd in their collection. Every last song on this cd is fantastic. Wild Horses, Climb The Walls, Passion Play, Breakfast In Bed, the spanish guitar song which is done so beautifully and spoken in spanish, Pretty Man and The Air I Breathe, should be put on a New CD with her other greatest songs. Let's not forget her awesome re-make of Linda Jones' Hypnotized.

Her last cd, La Donna has a lot of this cd's flavor in, but this cd has so much more passion, and is full of her deepest thoughts on love and Needs To Be Re-released!!!

Teena, I thank you for being such a Passionate, Indepth and Soulful Entertainer, not to mention a great poetress.

Keep putting out your Passion in the music you make and you will always hold your own in the music industry.

One Luv

5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal, February 10, 2006

This is one Teena's greatest CD's and lord knows she has had many great ones, Ivory, Lady T, Naked to the World, are some of my favorites and this CD is right up there. A fantastic production, almost every single song will blow your socks off. This CD was produced and distributed by Teena herself on her own lable, as a result it got NO AIR PLAY, like it did not happen, and now you can not buy it anywhere. It's a tragedy, one of the greatest CD's of all time, by anybody, bar none, is languishing in complete obscurity.

Trailblazing legendary icon Teena Marie is the greatest singer/songwriter and amazing poet of her generation and beyond & "Passion Play" just may be her greatest triumph & most incredible masterpiece although this unique musical genius has a number of them! Some strange reason the bland and totally out of it Music Industry blew it big time when it came to Teena Marie by not showering this brilliant artist with multiple "Grammy Awards" and deserved chart-topping hits through the years of her remarkable & incomparable output over a span of thirty-years...talk about Unsung!
First experienced Teena Marie in concert mid-eighties off the huge success of "Lovergirl" and audiences got it...sold out Los Angeles Forum showed the legend was sealed with a fan base who knew this was an act never to miss and did she ever deliver complete with the most sensuous duet ever performed live with the amazing Rick James...luckily in the front row, this concert and others that followed were exciting and memorable and Teena singing hypnotic anthem "Out On A Limb" to twenty-thousand enraptured fans was unfortgettable.
"Passion Play" in my collection since released yet somehow sadly overlooked but always in the back of my mind, lately searched out until found but not prepared for the stunning greatness contained in a single collection...opening strong with the cooking sophisicated funk-fest "Warm As Momma's Over", "Passion Play" is a musical journey beyond belief filled with variety, imagination, vocal magic & poetic beauty that one could write a book describing each and every magnificent gem...hypnotic, seductive, deeply soulful this stellar collection is the one to have for any music lover and "Slow Grind" will take the top of your head off when Teena breaks in to those flowing scats reminding us "I'm Gonna Have My Cake" it is musical bliss all the way. "You Blow Me Away" Teena Marie and love you 4ever!
Thank you Lady Tee for priceless musical gems left behind for us to savor and enjoy for all time...miss you so but comforted by such a treasure of phenomenal music...RIP sweet Ivory Queen Of Soul & "Passion Play" sets the bar really high...

5.0 out of 5 stars All the Praise by Other Reviewers is True!, April 13, 2006

All the positive comments in all the consistently glowing reviews of this CD are absolutely true, no matter how over the top they may sound (to someone who hasn't heard it!). Anyone who's taken the time to really listen to Lady Tee's body of work -- not just her radio hits -- knows she's a superb and unique artist, but it's true that of all the excellent albums she's made, this might just be the epitome. Ahead of its time, it sounds as fresh as anything making the charts today and is not only worth whatever price you have to pay to get a copy, it's also well worth Cash Money -- her current label -- re-releasing, maybe once her new 'Sapphire' CD runs its course (you guys at Cash Money listening? 'Cause if you do re-release this one and promote it right, cash money is what you'll be in for!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Passion Play, November 5, 2005

I remember buying this disc with a friend the day it was released in 1994. He questioned why I was making the purchase since he hadn't heard anything from the disc on the radio. I had to hip him to the fact that Lady T is one of the artists whose work I purchase without having to hear any songs first simply because I have adored her music my whole life and know that even if I don't entirely LOVE IT on the first listen, I'll eventually get into 3-5 songs.

This disc was also hard to find because Teena distributed it off of her own label so once stores sold out, unfortunately if you didn't get a copy, you were SOL!

It features the music from Teena that I love, there are funky up-tempo songs mixed with more than a few georgeous ballads. Over time my favorite tracks are: THE AIR I BREATHE, MAIN SQUEEZE, PARKING MUSIC, HYPNOTIZED, BREAKFAST IN BED, WARM AS MAMA'S OVEN, WILD HORSES, PRETTY MAN & PASSION PLAY.

If you already have this in your collection, well then you know how criminal it is that not one of these songs could get through any Clear Channel controlled radio station to reach the masses! If you don't have it, check Teena's official website to see if she's still selling it or try to get it used. It's a great addition to any fan's Teena Marie collection (I know I won't be parting with mine!!)

4.0 out of 5 stars Wild Horses couldn't drag away my 'Passion Play' CD!, February 19, 2006
This review is from: Passion Play (Audio CD)
Lucky for me, I lived in Minneapolis at the time and that was the location of the distributor for this CD, released independently by Lady T herself! We also had our local Sam Goody's flooded with cassingles of "Warm As Momma's Oven", which are now also highly collectable.

For me, "Passion Play" picks right up where "Ivory" (my fave LT CD of all time) left off: X-tremely sensual, sexual, romantic, and passionate. You can make love to this cd all night and never need to put another disc in! Just hit repeat!

Favorite songs for me are:
1) Hypnotized (remake of late 60s Linda Jones classic). T harmonizes with a male soul group on this one and it has a magical intro!
2) Breakfast In Bed! WOW! You've got to give it up for anyone who writes and sings the lyrics "Breakfast in bed / heavy on the cream / kisses over easy / and a side of everything". 'Nuff said.
3) Wild Horses - passionate.
4) Main Squeeze - features Lenny Kravitz on harmony vocals! They sound great together.

And there's more where all that came from! My advice for true Teena aficionados is to just fork over your 30 or 40 bucks and call your honey over for some hot lovin'! For those new to the Lady T experience, take your pick of 2 or 3 greatest hits packages to make sure you get a good sampling of both her Epic and her Motown work, preferably cds featuring LONG original LP versions, not single edits. With T you need to have the full effect as she writes mini-symphonies!

5.0 out of 5 stars Believe All The Hype From the Other Reviewers..., January 14, 2011
This review is from: Passion Play (Audio CD)
I now have ALL of Lady T's albums with the recent purchase of this hard to find MASTERPIECE. Like the other reviewers, I have nothing but praise for this album... This was the one that got away...it is a shame that this wasn't promoted with the help of a MAJOR label. I believe this would have been a breakthrough CD for the talented Lady T.

Every song on this disc flows and you will NOT SKIP a track. My favorites at this time are (I just got it last night) WILD HORSES, MAIN SQUEEZE, SMOOTH TIP. These were songs that caught me immediately. WORK TEENA!!!

We truly lost a real GEM on 12.26.10. The music world will never be the same and there will NEVER be another artist of this caliber. May you rest in peace. A life cut too short. I am still in disbelief and mourning quietly, but at least I have ALL of her catalog to keep up the memories.
