I entirely agree with one of the previous reviews by Suchit Parikh that this is not worth buying. I entirely agree with one of the previous reviews by Suchit Parikh that this is not worth buying. It gives a simple test to write down the ten most important goals in your life and then every chapter tells you how to do it over again and refine it. I read about 2/3 of the book and after reading how the authors had claimed to have coached several people on their way to becoming millionares realized this book was their effortless path to make a million.

There is not much substance here and there are better ways to reflect on how you should lead your life. I would recommend taking a good vacation, go hike a mountain, visit a foreign country and do something to get a better perspective on your life. I am somewhat obsessive about finishing books and almost never stop reading a book without finishing it, this was a rare exception.

This might be a good book for someone that really needs a simple way to organize their thoughts but as the previous reviewer said it would have been better done on a pamphlet or webpage.

1.0 out of 5 stars All hype, no substance, April 28, 2007
This review is from: The Passion Test: The Effortless Path to Discovering Your Destiny (Paperback)
I should have read the other negative reviews before buying this book. The Passion Test is nothing more than making a list of 10 things you like and then whittling it down. No insight, no creativity, no help.

The authors have been active in the self-help world for some time and have peddled all sorts of pap, anything to make a buck. They are part of a group that promotes each others' products through cross marketing and reviewing each others' products, so I'd take the raves for this book with a large grain of salt.

One thing is clear: The author's passion is marketing pap to the pseudo-spiritual seekers. Save your money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just OK, October 24, 2006

I wasn't blown away by this book. If you're trying to figure out what your passions are, this book is only helpful if you are already clear about what interests or motivates you. If you're like me, and still trying to figure out what makes you tick, I don't think this book will be of much assistance. However, for people who already have honed in on their interests, I can see how this book would be very helpful in focusing those interests into passions to concentrate on.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love What You Do....Do What You Love, May 11, 2006
This review is from: The Passion Test: The Effortless Path to Discovering Your Destiny (Paperback)
It has taken me half a century to come to the realization that I was so unhappy in my job (computer geek) because it wasn't something I really enjoyed. That conclusion may be elementary, but, in a society that touts material gain above all, the thought of leaving a high-income job for a field that pays peanuts was significantly daunting. This book brandishes high the uncommon philosophy that the important things in your life, be they career, marriage, relationships, parenting or simply living, should "put a fire in your belly." I wish I'd read this book decades ago. The test contained within helps one come face to face with conclusions perhaps long ignored, or never even contemplated. I encourage those who may be struggling with lack of direction, job potential, a relationship quandry or a sense of hopelessness in any venture of life to explore this book with an open mind and allow it to help lead you to an epiphany by which you may say, "I finally know my destiny!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Delivers Exactly What It Promises---Guidance to the "Effortless" Path to Discover Your Destiny!, May 25, 2006

*****
The Passion Test...as a Life Coach I've been there, done it all...yet, this is great! Fresh, exciting, effective! For those of us into self-improvement and personal growth, The Passion Test is a wonderful, intense tool for achieving maximum transformation at truly minimal cost.

The first half of the book is made up of narrative and powerful personal processes that the reader can do to help her/him discover their passions. The second half of the book consists of interviews with famous people (e.g., Dennis Waitley, Stephen Covey, Debbie Ford) who have followed their passions. The second half was fine, but the first part was incredible for me.

When I re-discovered my passions, I found it made the rest of my life clearer, and thus far more likely that I will have the kind of life I want. This process is one I will look forward to repeating periodically---semi-annually or so. The price of the book is so small---to deliver these processes in a seminar format would cost hundreds of dollars---and would be worth it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Basically, too basic, September 19, 2006
By
This review is from: The Passion Test: The Effortless Path to Discovering Your Destiny (Paperback)
I bought this book at a time in my life that I most definitely needed inspiration, a spark that would help me discover my calling, my "passion" in life. What a disappointment this book turned out to be. There was nothing new, no groundbreaking discoveries, no fresh slant on existing material.

Actually, it does provide some incentive: to write my own self-development book. If I had sat down and written the title first - The Passion Test - I reckon I could've scraped together enough ideas and packaged them sufficiently well to rival this publication. Hang on........I don't think I could've achieved the latter as I am definitely not as well connected as these authors. In this age of joint ventures, I dare say these guys have created relationships with many notable authors and therefore, there book and promotional material is covered by many complimentary quotations.

In a nutshell, the book is just far too basic, too simplistic and contains no fresh ideas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Three books in one, June 4, 2006
This review is from: The Passion Test: The Effortless Path to Discovering Your Destiny (Paperback)
This is three really good books in one. First is the Passion Test itself. A very simple but effective method to determine your true passion in life. Most people under estimate the importance of following your passion. So in addition to providing a means to identify your passion, they give you solid information on the importance of identifying and following your passion. You simply will not achieve your true potential unless and until you identify and follow your passion.

The second book, woven into the Passion Test section is about how Janet was able to follow her passion. It is truly a remarkable story.

The third book is a series of interviews with well know authorities describing how their success was tied to following their passion.

In my opinion, the best of these interviews was with Steven Covey (his father wrote The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People). I had initially thought he was included because of father. But his message is very real and compelling. This interview and the views he puts forth are well worth the entire book.

If you are unclear about your mission in life, read the book, take the test and follow your heart. Your life will forever be changed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gets a big thumbs up from me..., May 16, 2006
This review is from: The Passion Test: The Effortless Path to Discovering Your Destiny (Paperback)
Any book with passion in the title gets my attention. I grew up in West Virginia as a country hillbilly without much expectation of a bright future. However, I ran head on into my passion and it changed everything. I am passionate about learning and sharing what I've learned. For this reason, I am a writer, trainer and seminar leader. I love what I do because I am passionate about it.

This book helps you discover your passion and then overcome beliefs that make you think your passion cannot feed you (I mean that literally). You would be surprise what you can do and earn a living - particularly in the United States. We have a great economy and have since the recovery from the Great Depression and you can go where you want to go and do what you want to do - as long as you have the talents. It's all about perspective and passion.

What I mean by perspective is this: You can focus on a 5% unemployment rate or you can focus on a 95% employment rate. Wow! Do you really think you're in the bottom 5% of the country and you don't qualify for the jobs that link to your passion? You're not and you do!

The amazing thing - you usually have the talents to do that which you are passionate about. I believe you can do it and this book can help.

There are a lot of books out there that are supposed to help you rediscover your passion and have a fulfilled, abundant life. Like Goldilocks comparing the bears' porridge and beds, this is one of two that I've read that falls into the "just right" category; others are too clinical and difficult to get into, or too mumbo-jumbo, new-ageyish for me.

This book helps you think about what's important to you and then helps you focus to acheive those things. It's quite a hefty toolbox, but it is organized well so that you can read through and work with the tools without feeling overwhelmed.

My husband, who is quite practical (an engineer by training) and normally won't go near the self-improvement section of a bookstore, is also quite a fan of this book. And that says a lot.

2.0 out of 5 stars Being true to form, January 24, 2007
This review is from: The Passion Test: The Effortless Path to Discovering Your Destiny (Paperback)
With many New Age testaments you find that if something bad happens to you you have created your own reality; and therefore, you are a bad person. The book is shallow and narcissitic and deserves a bad review. Does that make the book bad or me the reviewer bad? (I bet I know!) It uses smoke and mirrors to make you think that you are discovering something very deep about yourself and you won't. There is nothing new or deep about this technique. Keep it simple and you don't have a book. Here is my book for free: Write down 5 things that you are pssionate about and stick with them; don't play shell games to come up with a totally different outcome to make you feel artificailly brilliant.
