About the Author

Anna Markland is a Canadian author with a keen interest in genealogy. She writes medieval romance about family honour, ancestry and roots. Her novels are intimate love stories full of passion and adventure. Following a successful career in teaching, Anna transformed her love of writing and history into engaging works of fiction. Prior to becoming a fiction author, she published numerous family histories. One of the things she enjoys most about writing historical romance is the in-depth research required to provide the reader with an authentic medieval experience.

More About the Author

I was born and educated in England, but I've lived most of my life in Canada. I was an educator for 25 years. It was a rewarding career, financially, spiritually and emotionally.
After that I worked with my husband in the management of his businesses. He's a born entrepreneur who likes to boast he's never had a job!
My final "career" was as Director of Administration of a global disaster relief organization.
I then embarked upon writing a romance, essentially for my own satisfaction. I chose the medieval period mainly because that genre of historical romance is one I enjoy reading.
I have a keen interest in genealogy. This hobby has had a tremendous influence on my stories. My medieval romances are about family honor, ancestry, and roots. As an amateur genealogist, I cherished a dream (as do many) of tracing my own English roots back to the Norman Conquest--an impossibility since I am not descended from nobility! So I made up a family and my stories follow its members through successive generations.
One of the things I enjoy most about writing historical romance is the in-depth research necessary to provide readers with an authentic medieval experience. I based the plot of my first novel, Conquering Passion, on an incident that actually happened to a Norman noblewoman.
I hope you come to know and love my Montbryce family as much as I do.

Anna Markland's historical romance of Robert and Dorianne during the upheaval between England and Normandie is sheer genius! History comes alive when one reads their story. The details are woven seamlessly into this story of true love and passion.

It is turbulent times when Robert de Montbryce decides he wants a love like his parents have shared for many years. Dorianne de Giroux's is the total opposite as hate, vengeance and the need for power are their only friends. When her family arranges marriage to a boy of only twelve, she can't wonder what her life will hold. But when she unwittingly falls in love with her family's enemy, a Montbryce, all is turned upside down.

This is a rousing story of a true, abiding love, told on the backdrop of medieval history and a must for everyone! Don't miss out...this is a great story...by an equally great story teller.

This story is about Robert Montbryce. Eldest son in line to be the Compte on his father's death desires a love for himself that his parents Ram and Maybell have always enjoyed.

In the midst of an upheaval when Norman interests were in jeopardy, Robert's family decide to support Henry, son of William the Conqueror, for the English throne. Everyone had to make a similar choice and some chose to lift their swords for Curthose his brother. One such family, old enemies of Ram Montbryce were Pierre de Giroux and his father. A meeting where everyone attended was called and Robert met and fell in love with Pierre's sister Dorianne. From this point on the tale carries the reader from happiness to heartbreak, jealousy to betrayal, and from terrible suffering to the heights of joy. I loved following this story and enjoyed every page because it seemed that something continuously happened to keep me involved. And the romance the author wove into each page? Well it was beautiful!

I grew up reading historical romances, especially medievals, where the history was not much more than a colorful backdrop for the romance. In Passion In the Blood, the historical detail is impressive, the events helping drive the story, intertwined with a very strong romance. It is masterfully done. The reader is sucked into the 12th century, right into the middle of politics, intrigue, and the trappings of life in that era. My only regret is that I started with this book, which I believe is the fourth in the series. While Ms. Markland did an excellent job of catching me up to date on the family members and important past events that informed their current situation, it was a lot of information to take in at the beginning. So, it can stand alone, but I would recommend starting with the beginning of the series and reading all of them.

This book in the Montbryce family saga follows Ram and Mabelle's son, Robert. Set against the tumultous politics and wars of the early 12th century, Robert is torn. As a Norman with property in England, should he follow Curthose or the newly-crowned Henry, who as Henry II who will establish the Plantagenet dynasty in England. While in Normandy, he meets Dorianne de Giroux and falls in love, not an appropirate match as Dorianne's family carries a hatred for the Montbyces.
Dorianne's brother, Pierre, locks her up in a nunnery on Mont St. Michael, but she's rescued by Robert and they marry. Love wins out, even though Pierre continues his attacks on the pair.
A fast, sexy read of medieval romance with treachery, envy, lust and love all playing a part.

In the tradition of the sweeping sagas of the 20th century and writers like Frank Yerby (The Vixens) and John Jakes (The Kent Family Chronicles) Passion in the Blood, the fourth installment of the Montbryce Legacy, sends us careening through the early Twelfth Century. So much action--days, months, even years rush by as the author deftly brings home the brutality of family and political realities of this distant time period.

Ann Markland is an excellent writer. You will not be disappointed in her ability to capture your interest and keep you turning the pages. To Ms. Markland I might only ask if you have ever thought about adding a little mystery with a non topical twist of fate? This might add another dimension to your awesome ability of telling your stories.
