5.0 out of 5 stars Moving and comfortable and lovely, October 12, 2000
By
This review is from: Passion Train (Audio CD)
It's very hard to pick a single favorite CD out of all the music I listen to, but somehow I keep coming back and back and back to Passion Train. No matter the state of my life, I can close my eyes, listen to this CD, and forget (or remember) whatever's going on. I'm a sucker for creative, thoughtful lyrics, and every single song on this album just soars. "Two Faces Have I" sounds like an ancient folk song, even though Bruce Springsteen wrote and released it in 1989, and "Rocky Mountain Side" is as good and angry a love song as I've ever heard. Don't be afraid of the word "bluegrass" -- Salamander Crossing is wonderful.

One of my favorites. Saw them at a cozy performance at the Vergennes Opera House, and have not stoped listening to the CD since. Encore, Encore! We even picked the song "Sweetest Song" as our first dance at our wedding!

5.0 out of 5 stars very VERY good, October 12, 1999

Salamander Crossing is one of those bands you see once and immediately buy all of their recordings. I saw them at the Black and White Theatre in Middleboro, MA about two years ago and they played to me, my mom and step-dad, and two other people...it was the most intimate performance by a band that I have witnessed. This album is a step above the rest...tight vocal harmonies and Rani Arbo plays that fiddle with enough emotion to break your heart or get your toes-a-tappin'. get this cd. you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gently strides the border of bluegrass and folk, August 23, 1998

A wonderful, melodic album. As Allison Kraus does, uses arrangement for the purpose of the music (not just verse-chorus-break, verse-chorus-break). The harmonies are gorgeous, and the song selection diverse. An outstanding disk - stands above the crowd.

5.0 out of 5 stars A marvelous album!, July 24, 1998

I can attest that this CD is wonderful. It has terrific music from one end to the other. I had the pleasure of seeing Salamander Crossing in Vergennes, VT, where they played a number of songs from the CD. The final cut, "The New Madera Waltz," is hauntingly beautiful. You will not grow tired of this CD any time soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Feel good, feel bad, can't help but feel something!, June 18, 1998

I picked this CD up after seeing Salamander Crossing at a concert at the Vergennes Opera House in Vergennes Vermont. The album is really nice. The group mixes up vocal leads, instrument leads really nicely. The msuic is uplifting and the right background for a special time. The violinst /singer Rani is unreal on the CD, and even better in concert. Electric. I hope to see more original work from this great group.
