From Library Journal
Sayers's popular translation of Hell and Purgatory appeared between 1949 and 1955; Paradise (1962) was completed after her death by Reynolds. Well prepared for the task of translation by her academic studies and career as a novelist, essayist, poet, and dramatist, Sayers greatly admired Dante as a storyteller and thus thoroughly visualized each of his scenes for the reader. Views on the poetic merits of her work varied, but her commentary and notes garnered scholarly acclaim. Weaving together new biographical information, previously unpublished correspondence, and literary insights, this book enriches our appreciation of Sayers as a litterateur and friend. For all general collections.
