Page turner....,
This review is from: Passionate Misfortunes (Paperback)
I thought this book was very engaging. It was relative to the streets of Boston. Comical in its tone and Real overall!! It was a page turner. I read it under 4 hours and enjoyed every bit of it. Passionate Misfortunes is an emotional rollercoaster. It lets the reader experience all types of emotions through the souls of its characters. I can not wait to read the sequel. T Jones

Opportune,

Tony is a standup guy. While enjoying a day at the Pride festival, he courageously takes a step against crime. Are there still men like this around? Kyra, a spectator at the event, wonders as she's instantly drawn to the hero.
Tony gets a visit from an angel, and it's not long before he and his angel, Kyra, are spending all of their time with one another. That is until money gets funny and the change between the loving couple becomes estranged. Mr. Harris, do me a favor, and add some more beef to part two for me.

Money Matters,
By OOSA Online Book Club "O.O.S.A. Gets It Read!" (World Wide Web, USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE)

While attending the African Pride Festival in the Roxbury section of Boston, Anthony Thornton, a student at North Carolina Central University, meets Arianna, a sassy 6-year old who immediately amuses him. In the blink of the eye, Tony finds himself caught in crossfire.
Kyra Thompson, a part-time model, watched as the entire incident unfolded along with her girls, Vanessa and Tieshia. Kyra and Tony hit it off immediately. Can this be love? Kyra has abandoned her friends and spends every waking moment with Tony. Passionate Misfortunes is a one-day read. Although it was a quick read, I still feel as though so much more could've come out. Author Stacey Stephon Harris does a good job twisting love, greed, money, clout and drama together. This is only the first episode, so I'm looking forward to reading part 2. Reviewed by: Crystal

Passionate Misfortunes
Stacey Stephon Harris ISBN: 0595-35774-1 $13.95 Anthony " Tony" Thornton is a young black man working hard to be somebody. While home from college Tony is shot in a gang related shooting while saving the life of a little girl named Arianna. Watching in the wings is Kyra, a pretty, street smart young lady with a bright future in modeling. When Kyra picks up Tony's jacket from the scene of the shooting, full of blood and a bullet hole she becomes overwhelmed. Kyra take the jacket home and washes it wondering who this good looking local hero is. Kyra brings Tony's jacket and wallet to the hospital where they get to know each other well. Tony is smitten by Kyra and her sweet and caring ways. He thinks he might have found "the one" his angel as he calls her. That is until Tony hits the lottery and wins five million dollars. Suddenly Kyra isn't the angel he thought she was. Kyra is spending money like crazy and when Tony shuts her down to save for their future, Kyra turns evil. Tony also goes to the hospital often to visit little Arianna and her mother Pauline with whom he has developed a close relationship. Kyra the angel doesn't like it one bit. Pauline knows that Kyra witnessed the shooting but Kyra says she doesn't remember any of it. Tony's family feels something just isn't right with Kyra. Along with the mix is an ancient charm given to Tony by an old woman. A charm that is magical in Tony's hand. This is a love story gone mad with a street fiction backdrop and a lesson on how money can bring greed and greed brings evil. I can't wait for part 2. Harris had crafted a bittersweet novel that holds you to the end. A fast easy read. A wonderful debut.

Young Adult Crowd Pleaser,

3 1/2 star effort.
This book started off, after a brief encounter with violence, as "boy meets girl". The novel wasn't exactly a page turner (in my opinion) because I put it down a couple times when the story slowed down, but overall it is a good read for middle grade, high schoolers and perhaps college freshmen.

Passionate Misfortunes Has a Great Future,
By Louise (Chicago - I'm back home FINALLY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Passionate Misfortunes (Paperback)
Anthony aka Tony is a hero in his own right. Saving a little girl while getting himself injured drew Kyra right into his arms. Tony knew that she was an angel from the first sight of her as he was becoming unconscious from being shot. After weeks of rehabilitation of not only his body but his heart, Tony is willing to open up and be the man that he knows Kyra deserves. After years of no luck, Tony has finally gotten his dream of becoming a millionaire. Will his once angelic beauty turn into an evil beast?
Kyra couldn't believe how wonder Tony was. She loved him with all her heart and could not see a day of not being with her man. While their situation might have looked grime in the beginning, their lives take a turn for the better and now Kyra is on her way. There is only one problem that stands to hold her back from what is rightfully hers. Not even her beloved husband Tony can stand in her way. Stacey Harris has a great storyline which has you turning the pages fast and furious. To say the least I was surprised and cannot wait for the sequel. |
