2.0 out of 5 stars Boring.
I'm afraid the performance is neither interesting nor passionate. The story is contrived and incredible. After reading several disappointing books with raving reviews, I'm getting wary about buying books which are written by relatively new and unknown wirters.

Lord Justin Linton's father was licentious and downright mean to both his son and wife. The senior Linton is killed by a jealous "unknown" lover and the mother takes her own life. Before passing, senior Linton had somehow instilled the belief of an "eye for an eye" into his son. Therefore, Lord Linton spends his adult years planning the confession and downfall of the woman who took his father's life and caused his mother's suicide.

Lord Linton hires Miss Sarah Armistead, a wellborn-lady-actress-by-necessity, to help recreate events and circumstances leading to his father's death. Although Linton is rather dark and cold, we see an occasional flicker of good. Sarah seeks to reach him and free his soul from misguided revenge.

There are some implausible situations (of course) and Lord Linton's vulnerabilities might have been better developed along with the story's resolution but, as far as Regencies go, this one was not bad or great; the writing flowed well and it kept my interest. 3 1/2 stars
