5.0 out of 5 stars Real-life fantasy
Yes, I enjoy books like The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty and Exit to Eden, but I much prefer even my fantasies to have a bit more realism in them. I want to be able to truly believe that they _could_ happen to me. This book was PERFECT for that. I also like that the author makes it clear that D/s does not necessarily mean the same thing as S/M! AND that the main character does not spend ALL of her time in the throes of ecstasy. She states that it's simply all she's sharing in the book since everyone knows what normal day-to-day activities are like. Overall, the best erotica I've read so far.

3.0 out of 5 stars A BONDAGE lovers dream....., November 17, 1998

This review is from: The Passive Voice (Paperback)
This is a delightfully entertaining book for hardcore bondage lovers. It is told in a semi detached manner by a woman as she experiences different erotic bondage escapades. There is a great deal of detail in most of the described stories except when it gets to the sexual aspects. At times there is a myriad of details and others she quite coyly states 'this isn't that kind of book' and provides no other details other than the deed was done. I gave the book only 3 stars for false advertisement. The book opens with Victoria deciding to give herself to Howard as a birthday present and she gets herself pierced in a part of her anatomy that would make most of us women shudder. But there is no lead or further explanation as to why she thought that Howard would appreciate her gift. Howard not only appreciates her gift but takes it to a higher level immediately. There is no slowly growing to accept the ideas of eroticism and bondage. The author goes full steam ahead as soon as Howard locks her up on page 2. She becomes game for any and everything so this notion of discovery goes out the window in a hurry. We are fed scene after scene of delectable bondage scenes and mock rapes etc. that are quite entertaining. There is little else to the book so if you are expecting to read a fully fleshed out novel then think again. The author is quite honest about that as you read through in that they fully acknowledge just presenting story after story of different bondage scenes to the reader. At times it was a bit tedious and repetitive but for the most part I read it with a smile and appreciated the frequent humor. By the way I was very glad to see the author take the time to distinguish between dominance and submission and sadism and masochism. There is a big difference between the two that is often overlooked by a lot of writers. Bondage is definitely in the d/s camp and not the s/m camp.So if you like your bondage straight up without ice then this is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Certainly had it's moments., January 4, 2000

This review is from: The Passive Voice (Paperback)
I found myself reading this book pretty quickly, because it was very entertaining, erotic and lots of fun. Some chapters tended to drag a bit through repitition, but most were arrousing. I particularly liked the chapters about the "soire", the wedding gift and the rape fantasy. I would recommend this if you're looking for a fun, easy, and erotic read.

Note to the author for future stories (if any) - use the word "freak" less often. I mean really...

I liked The Passive Voice very much, read it twice. The author is an englishwoman with a sense of humor who is very much into B&D,and offers herself as a present to her boyfriend. Shortly the focus expands to her/their circle of friends. Very sexy, as much because of what goes on between the ears as elsewhere. Real insights on what it's like to welcome bondage, and get more than you ask for. One of the famed John Willie's bondage and discipline situations is borrowed here (and improved on.) As a bonus, it's very well written.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Bondage Adventures, January 14, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Passive Voice (Paperback)
It is so enjoyable to see someone completely consumed in her pastime. In this book, we see our narrator thoroughly enjoying her exploration of sexual stimulation through bondage in many forms. The joy of being tied up for extended periods in various delicious positions and circumstances is the substance of this book. First the fun of having a lock swing from her pierced labia is described. The glee in her face is apparent in this discussion. Hardly passive throughout this first person account, our narrator actively explores sexual stimulation through her personal bondage and the bondage of others. In a favorite passage, she uses an electric control box to vary the intensity and sexual stimulation of another woman wearing a full body bondage suit. Exquisite smiles go back and forth between the two women that fully described the thrills of the pain/pleasure connection. "When I turned the second switch on again, the moan changed pitch slightly. I looked up to see her eyes on my face. Our eyes caught and held." Yet our narrator is not a lesbian, but pursues her bondage opportunities with several people, while always under the watchful eye of her Master, Howard. Her continued adventures provide little character development of her, but lots for the reader. We learn about bondage freaks, pain freaks, and submissive adventures of all sorts. Those curious about the sensual aspects of bondage, discipline, pain, and humiliation can more sharply define their own interests through her thoughts. In one passage, our narrator claims not to be sexually stimulated by everything she encounters, after all, she is not interested in animals. With this book, look forward to lots to stimulating sexual adventures here. It just might just add some fun and understanding to your sex life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sane bondage in a modern setting; essential BDSM reading, December 26, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Passive Voice (Paperback)
If you like classic bondage literature, like Fanny Hill or Story of O, you will like this novel. Written in the first person from the submissive's point of view, it chronicles a woman's (and her friends') initiation and experiences in a modern dominant/ submissive relationship. Details different monogamous bondage scenarios, contains an INCREDIBLE kidnap/rape fantasy, and also enters the world of group BDSM parties. NOT for the lover of porn or romance novels, this is true erotica at it's best. A literary exploration of the BDSM lifestyle not to be missed, told in a personal, sensual format!

its a pleasure to read a book exploring the fun parts of bondage and s/m. the topic is seldom if ever broached in mainstream media and as a lifelong practioner i am thrilled to have this venue to share with others in the scene.rather than give a description of the plot, let me just say read it and take it for what it is. if you're into you'll love it, if not well....

5.0 out of 5 stars I do, June 28, 2001
This review is from: The Passive Voice (Paperback)
The exciting story of a modern couple who takes bondage as far as they can in their daily lives. Often funny and always erotic, the novel offers a series of amazing scenes, from a breathtaking bicycle ride to a bdsm "wedding" where presents include a leather hood and a whip.
