From the Inside Flap

Passover Desserts When you think of Passover dessert you think of flavorless macaroons from an airtight canister or Grandma's dry spongecake camouflaged by strawberries, right? Well, not anymore. Passover Desserts contains 50 delicious recipes—everything from cookies to cobblers—that taste and look so good, you're sure to impress your holiday guests. Author Penny Eisenberg starts off by explaining dietary guidelines—which foods require a "Kosher for Passover" label—taken from the Rabbinical Assembly Pesach Guide. She covers how to prepare your cooking equipment so it's kashered for Passover, acquaints you with the basic Passover dessert ingredients and their preparation techniques, and ends with a guide to equipment and ingredient suppliers. Penny says, "On all other nights we eat dessert that is tasty. Why on this night do we eat desserts that look and taste like cardboard?" With recipes for frostings, fillings, glazes, and sauces—and instructions on decorating basics—Passover desserts become rich, flavorful, and attractive. The recipes—using Passover-approved ingredients like potato flour, matzo meal, and Passover chocolate—are arranged with pareve (no dairy or meat) recipes first, then dairy. Those with little or no cholesterol are marked with a heart. With choices like Caramel Cheesecake Squares with "Graham Cracker" Crust, Chocolate Cherry Mini-Tarts, and Peach Raspberry Tiramisu, Passover Desserts will not only be your source for a sweet Passover but also for kosher desserts throughout the year.

4.0 out of 5 stars complicated, time consuming, but terrific tasting recipes, March 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Passover Desserts (Hardcover)
I've had this book for 3 years, and made 3 different, amazing cakes from it. I've usually complained that Pesach cakes aren't sweet enough. These are just what I was looking for! But the recipes are very complicated, time consuming, labor & energy intensive. You can't whip these up plus all the rest of a seder for 20. Use this book when you're attending a seder, where you're just in charge of bringing the desserts. The 2 biggest drawbacks are that I wish there were pictures to go with the recipes with their complex decorating & serving suggestions, and that the book is not well enough organized. You'll constantly flip between the cake, the filling & the topping recipes spread out through different parts of the book. But the cakes are worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Passover desserts good yearround., April 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Passover Desserts (Hardcover)
I use this book year round because the desserts are so wonderful. The book "builds" on several key cakes that can be adapted to many different great desserts. The Hazelnut ganache cake is so good that I make it Thanksgiving, Hannukah and birthdays, as I do with the cheesecake recipe and several others. People come to my seder for the desserts. Lots of praise is good for the cook.

5.0 out of 5 stars These desserts are great for everyday........., April 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Passover Desserts (Hardcover)
Passover Desserts gives inspriation and direction for showstopper recipes with Passover challenges in baking. This book answers the questions and I have been very successful with all the recipes. I also appreciated the reasons for the use of specific ingredients versus other options. A perfect finish for my holiday meal.
