Book Description

3 and up
Touch, turn, open, and learn! This lively interactive guide to a Passover seder is a perfect introduction for children. Emily Sper is also the author-illustrator of Hanukkah: A Counting Book (F '01).

From the innovative creator of Hanukkah: A Counting Book in English, Hebrew, and Yiddish comes The Passover Seder. There's no other book like this in the marketplace! Along with a simple retelling of the Passover story, this novelty book takes readers through a hands-on seder experience. Open a Hagaddah; turn a seder plate to match symbolic foods; lift the napkin and "break" the middle matzah; touch matzah, parsley and a pillow; pour drops of wine to symbolize the ten plagues; help the Jews cross the Red Sea; search for the hidden afikomen; and open the door to welcome Elijah the Prophet.

More About the Author

Emily Sper writes, illustrates, and designs children's books and games. "Hanukkah: A Counting Book" (2001), "The Passover Seder" (2003),and "The Kids' Fun Book of Jewish Time" (2006) quickly became "classics" and favorites of children and parents.

In 2004 she created "Hanukkah Card Games" so families would have another fun game to play together when they were done spinning dreidels. To her surprise, families play all year long! "Passover Go Fish" and "Jewish Holidays Go Fish" followed. Check them out on Amazon!

A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design (B.F.A.), New York University (M.A.), and Hebrew College (Me'ah), Emily divides her time among creating fun books and games (www.emilysper.com), graphic design (www.blueirisdesign), fine art photography (www.emilysperphoto.com), and visiting schools to talk about books and bookmaking. She lives in the Boston area.

This review is from: The Passover Seder (Hardcover)
This is not just a children's Passover book, it is a sensory experience. The bright beautiful illustrations are a visual feast, and are accompanied by a variety of hands-on activities to keep a child fully engaged while he or she learns about a traditional seder and the story of Passover. I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking a Passover experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, engaging, colorful!, June 19, 2005

This review is from: The Passover Seder (Hardcover)
Sper's book is a delight. The Passover story is told with lots of opportunities for kids to interact: finding the hidden afikoman, helping the Jewish people cross the Red Sea, feeling the karpas, opening the door for Elijah, for example. The illustrations are simple and bright, and the text is engaging. The perfect gift for a child!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantistic Passover book for children!, June 24, 2005
This review is from: The Passover Seder (Hardcover)
I loved this book, both as a parent and religious school teacher. The pictures are creative, clear and engaging. The text is a delightful telling of the Passover story. A great gift for children old enough to read themselves as well as a wonderful book children will want you to read to them. I highly recommend this book!
