5.0 out of 5 stars This thing is great.
While I admit the cable is short, I have had no issue transfering 3 and 4 gig images onto this machine. I can't vouch for the transfer rate being better or worse than some other product. I can upload a 4 gig image in about 20 minutes and download from this drive, back to the same machine in 3 minutes. Never had an issue with power, or it spinning up to speed. If you...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not consistent - drops connectivity
Nice design, very short USB cable (maybe 10"), doesn't consistently stay connected on 2-year old XP Pro PC (drops connection every 2 minutes or so), works fine on new Dell Laptop (XP Pro).

If you can leave the unit next your machine go with a powered unit. However I travel extensively and I have never had any kind of issue. Small in physical size, very good data size.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't have asked for more...But then they came out with more., September 30, 2008

When this product came out I snagged it up, and I couldn't have imaged enjoying something like this so much. To be quaint I couldn't have asked for more...But then they came out with more (320GB), and now I own the 320GB too. Great buy.

Perfect BIG moble removeable! From home to Work, School, Anywhere, never a problem, been perfect for months now. Love it. Short cord's OK for me, less to tangle, Speed's very acceptable for USB and actualy quite quick. Might not like an unpowered multiport with multiple devices plugged in, but always OK by itself a single port. Like it so much am gettin a RED one! And did i mentiond its BIG, Quick and Reliable!(3yr warranty!)

For almost the same price you can get the Western Digital 320GB passport. So why would you not get the 320GB? I've got 5 or 6 250GB Passports and their woderfull I will soon be the owner of a 320GN WD Passport.

Nice case. Cable included is short and not very flexible. HD runs 2-3 times slower then regular SATA drives. But this drive is very portable and doesn't require additional power supply.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nice device crippled by lack of proper cable, October 17, 2007

I opened this package to find an useless 1 foot USB cable which is incapable of supplying the required power to this device. As a result, the drive will not spin up on any of my 4 computers.

According to the USB 2.0 specification, the maximum current a bus-powered device can draw from any hub is 500 mA. Western Digital certainly knows this and therefore should have provided a proper Y cable in the package.

I returned this $130 drive for want of a $2 cable (which WD sells to idiots for an additional $10 plus shipping)! Because of this inconsiderate money-grubbing tactic, I will avoid all Western Digital products in the future.
