A humorous and revealing guide,
By Erica Singer (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Passport Israel: Your Pocket Guide to Israeli Business, Customs & Etiquette (Passport to the World) (Paperback)
This succinct, highly readable guide to understanding Israeli culture and dealing with Israelis in business and social contexts makes observations solidly supported by academic research on the subject. Topics range from negotiating with Israelis to hot-button issues like religion and politics. The bibliography of books and Internet sites provides additional resources for those who want to know more. A must-read for Americans seeking successful intercultural communication with Israelis, whether in the U.S. or Israel.

I purchased this as a source for a class presentation. If my professor had not required that I have three sources, I would not have needed anything else. Great, up-to-date, practical information from someone who has been there. Great buy!

If you like this business book, you really will enjoy Donna Rosenthal's newly updated 2008 edition THE ISRAELIS: Ordinary People in an Extraordinary Land.
THE ISRAELIS is riveting, and a fast read, filled with eye-opening stories from a wild and wide range of Israelis -- from Tel Aviv to Haifa to settlers. You really can't understand contemporary Israelis without reading this remarkable book. Marvelous writing style. You certainly won't learn it from CNN or FOX. I give THE ISRAELIS to people who claim they know Israel -- especially Israelis and Palestinians. Great for high school and university students, soldiers, travelers, business people, clergy and reading groups. I didn't realize there are so many different types of Israeli Muslims, Israeli Christians, Palestinian and Jewish gays and religious and non-religious Jews. Fascinating book. Give THE ISRAELIS to a politician. How can you try to make peace if they don't know about the many types of Israelis?

I had originally purchased this book to use for a school project. While the book was extremely useful for my Human Resources class, I also found the issues and topics presented in the book to be of great interest. This book is easy reading, short and to the point.
