5.0 out of 5 stars If you want the rewards, you need the license, October 29, 2003

This review is from: Passtrak Series 24: General Securities Principal : License Exam Manual (Paperback)
Many industries have licensing, and the securites industry is no exception.

Assuming that you work for a firm that wants you to move up to managing a piece of the business, or taking responsibility for others, you will need to pass the "Series 24 Exam."

Two ways to get it. Take a crash course that is priced close to $1,000 or "hit the books."

If you really take the time to throughly read this book, and honestly take the quizzes + exams (paper + CD) and then take the time to review your mistakes and then in a highly interactive multi week process retake the exams and CD based tests until you hit scores in the 80's (as the book suggests)......you will pass the Series 24 Exam.

On that basis is the book not just good, but absolutely excellent. Actually I would rate it as 100% excellent and appropriate for the intended task.

The book clearly lays out what you need to know to both learn what a Series 24 is and what it takes to pass the exam.

But I will warn you. If you think that like the Microsoft MCSE computer geek exams, you can crash through this without some "hands on" and or some prior real world experience and still pass, then you are wrong. You will need some additional understanding and experience in the Securites industry to get through this book and later the exam.

One last item....unless you are starting up your own firm and all of your firm's paperwork (roughly 4 inches of it in the typical startup) has been initially submitted to your state, the feds and the "Self regulatory organization" that your firm is planning to join, you MUST absolutely need to be sponsored by the firm that you work for now (that is the law) in order to register and then to be approved and then to be permitted to take the exam. So make absolutely sure that you have completed the necessry industry registration forms and that you and your employer has signed them and then you or your employing firm have enclosed the exam fee (who pays is sometimes negotiable in the context of your position) and upon submission of that registration form then order this book.

At that point, you will have roughly 60 days to finish studying and to take and pass the exam.

This book is excellent for that intense 60 day task, but like any other educational undertaking, you have to put the time in with it to get the most out of it.

This book is outdated and does not adequetly prepare you for the Finra Series 24 exam. There have been 2 major updates since this book was published, and had I known that this was an "old" edition, I would not have spent the money as the material is far outdated.

Why buy a book that needs a 5 star review from its own staff LOL-

Actual > 2006 Exam (UGLY! *V!* Impossible to relate, need real DB exp.)

Psstrek w/ an "i" > same old material as 90's book, nothing improved, save your money for letters to dearborn "demanding a new edition that's actually based on 2006+ exam questions"
