Book Description

April 16, 1998
First she wrote Across Time and Death, now she takes us into the future...

Jenny Cockell grew up knowing she had lived before. In her first book, the bestselling Across Time and Death, she revealed how she had been haunted by the memories of Mary Sutton, a young Irish woman who had died more than twenty years before Jenny was born. She was compelled to search for the facts and details that eventually confirmed the existence of her past life and led to an emotional reunion with her family.

But Jenny Cockell's extraordinary journey doesn't end there. Past Lives, Future Lives tells the continuing story of the psychic experiences that spurred her to investigate not only other past lives but the future -- as far ahead as the twenty-third century. Her amazingly detailed glimpses of the future are more than merely personal images; they allow her to formulate an overall view of what the future holds for us all -- including a planet much lower in population, but also safer and more pleasant than the world of today. Past Lives, Future Lives presents a fascinating look at the continuity of past, present, and future.

In her honest, warm, and plain-speaking voice, Jenny Cockell writes of the past and the future in a way that is both practical and visionary; she offers inspiration and hope for the world to come.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very interesting read, June 4, 2005
By
S.E. Poza (Rimersburg, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Past Lives Future Lives (Paperback)
Jenny Cockell can "remember" other lives. Her memories support the idea held by many believers of so-called New Age spirituality that there is no time but that time is a framework for our current perception of reality.

Though it seems that she can see "through time" to her past and future lives, the main concept is that she simply can access other parts of her "spirit" or "soul" which are experiencing other realities. She's not a prognosticator. It's more like we are locked in a room with four walls and no windows living this existence and are completely unaware that we are also experiencing other existences in other locked rooms simultaneously. Jenny Cockell's room has windows where she can see other existences as she experiences this one.

While a few reviewers have said her "predictions" lack credibility, I feel her future perceptions of a planet with greatly reduced population due to environmental damage come across as highly credible, particularly in light of the fact that this book was written before the effects of environmental hormones on fertility were popularly known.

Her writing is not well-polished but I think that's because she's not trying to be a great author. She's not trying to woo you with her scintillating story but simply to relate her story so that others can understand what she has been experiencing all her life. If you want a fascinating novel, you'd best look elsewhere. If you want to hear an honest and very readable account of a woman's sincere and uncommon percpetion of reality, this book is for you.

2.0 out of 5 stars Brief Look at the Paranormal, December 15, 2005

This review is from: Past Lives Future Lives (Paperback)
If you have read Jenny Cockell's previous book "Yesterday's Children" then much of this book is already familiar.

I agree with the reviewer who said this book is more like a magazine article. Several chapters are padded with quotes from other authors to sum up paranormal experiences such as children's past life memories and experiences between lives. These other authors' ideas are used to support the brief descriptions that Jenny gives herself.

The quest to find out about her future life in Nepal is filled with facts about Nepal, but the life itself (of course) can't be confirmed.

****SPOILERS AHEAD****

Jenny does have a different view of reincarnation. She believes that it is not the result of "karma" or free choice, rather the decision to come back is a subtle subconscious one that is heavily influenced by the desire to reincarnate along side other familiar people.

Her dry writing style leaves me with the impression that she has not learned much in terms of spirituality in all her different lives. After this current lifetime exploring the paranormal and a supposedly future life in Nepal, Jenny predicts to have a new lifetime in 2228 as a woman named Janice: "I was a dumpy, single woman; I gave my age as 'the wrong side of thirty'" After all this focus on the spiritual and that's what she ends up thinking?

This book is not inspiring. The descriptions of experiences between lives is a rehash of other material. The writing style is tedious. The drama about finding her future lifetime in Nepal is muted by the fact that it can't be confirmed.

Her prediction about a decreased population after 2050 is interesting because it relates to fertility problems caused by pollution. That brief section did hold my interest. However, the rest of the book was dull.

Yes, she can see future lives and they are very, very boring.

By A Customer
This review is from: Past Lives Future Lives (Paperback)
an amazing book of one womans journey. it made me believe in what i thought might be impossible - past and future lives. through jenny's experience and honesty i could see that there is more, that there is something beyond, and that perhaps we have all lived before.
