Editorial Reviews

Rutger Hauer and Natasha Richardson star in this penetrating psychological thriller about a man's search for a new beginning and a woman's deadly search for the truth. Ben Jordan (Hauer) is releasedfrom prison after serving 15 years for killing his pregnant wife. Laura Mathews (Richardson) is his social worker. Undeniably drawn to the intelligent, intense convict, Laura starts to believe Ben's story that he was framed. But as she pieces together the 15-year old puzzle, someone begins to terrorize her in her home. Too late, Laura realizes how little she really knows about the man she hasfallen in love with and how vulnerable that makes her. Edge-of-your-seat suspense builds to unbearable heights of fear as Laura discovers that passion can be the most dangerous crime of all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps You Watching From Start To Finish July 30, 2009
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Past midnight is one of my favorite films with Rutger Hauer. Natasha Richardson, rest her soul gives one of her best preformances in this film. They both did stunning jobs of acting. Rutger plays a man that has went to jail for a murder he claims he never committed. Natasha plays his social worker after he is released. The movie is suspenseful and keeps you guessing from start to finish. Not only is the acting great but the storyline is wonderful. Natasha ends up trying to help Rutger clear himself of the crime but along the way she has hassitations of his innocence and runs into alot of problems along the way. If you have not seen this film it is a must see. I never took my eyes off of the television screen when I first saw it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome movie July 9, 2007
I decided to rent this despite the fact that it's an older film because I love Rutger Hauer. The plot has a lot of twists and turns and a surprising ending. This one is definitely easy to overlook but certainly worth seeing if you're a fan of thrillers. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Old Time Thriller. July 20, 2013

I saw this when it came out and on cable once and forgot about it.
I've been looking for some 'good' Rutger Hauer movies which there
are some 'bad' ones out there not his fault. This one is a good mystery
thriller with Hauer as a x-com convicted of killing his pregnant wife.
Natasha Richardson is his social worker and of course they fall and
she doubts his innocence and ....I won't spoil it for you if you haven't
seen it but the ending for me was no surprise but still a good thriller.
see if you can guess who's the real killer!

5.0 out of 5 stars When do you forgive..When do you forget? December 23, 2012

It's hard enough being an ex-con without returning to the same town and having hateful people wanting to punish you again. Rutger Hauer plays a quiet man trying to move on in his life but a tenacious social-worker-parole office worker is attracted to his unlikely past and gets up close and unprofessional. Great murder mystery that makes you want to cuddle up with your loved one.

1.0 out of 5 stars One word for the description = Awful November 28, 2012
Format:Amazon Instant Video|Verified Purchase
I HAD to watch this movie for a human services class, and I thought my brain was going to explode. This movie is a clear demonstration on what a social worker should NOT do. I would not waste my money on this movie unless I had to (which I did).
