Not so good.,

Entertaining, yes. Informative, no. It seemed throughout the entire book, the author was just trying to complain about his personal career. I have never seen so many typos in a published book before, and I was continually amazed at how bad the editing was. The author had all kinds of crazy sayings that he kept emphasizing throughout the book, something about being a 14th century ninja in a 21st century world... Get real.

A Joke,
By William T (Asheville, NC United States) - See all my reviews

Anyone wishing to buy this book should not take what the author writes, (or at least attempts to write), with any ounce of seriousness. Ditto to the previous reviewer when he noted, "For someone who claims to have been meticulous about his police reports, it certainly did not carry over into this poorly edited book, filled with typos, spelling and grammatical errors." It really became distracting. I felt, at times, I was reading a book written on about the 6th grade reading level. This book was, without a doubt, one man's inept attempt to vent all of his frustrations to the world for why he never went any further in his career than he did.
Furthermore, as a professional law enforcement officer and trainer with a background very similar to the author's, I found it a to be a miracle that he was able to acheive retirement status given some of the acts he professes to have committed in his book. I would hope that anyone who has read or reads this book will not paint all law enforcement officers with the same broad brush as type of officer the author depicts himself to be in this book.

Disappointing...,
By Harry Haller (Broward County, Florida) - See all my reviews

Katz provides an all too familiar perspective of the absurdities his vocation regularly encounters. However, the quality of the writing is marginal. For someone who claims to have been meticulous about his police reports, it certainly did not carry over into this poorly edited book, filled with typos, spelling and grammatical errors.
As the book progresses, it seemed to become more of a soapbox for an individual who purportedly was passed over on promotions for no legitimate reasons. I've worked with guys like this before. Their intransigence prevents them from seeing the big picture. Malcontents, they never figure out how to play the game and keep their mouth shut. And no, that is not a euphemism for arse kissing. Rather, a maturity to see beyond one's self. Not recommended. If you want to read a wonderful book by a police officer, read Edward Conlon's Blue Blood. |
