Ron Carter has a major moment with this album...

FIRST, a top class group of musicians.
SECOND, a beautiful string ensemble beautifully arranged and orchestrated.
THIRD, five beautiful compositions, where the bass is king AND where the instrument pulls up the best from all the other instruments.

I found this album to be an amazing sonic AND musical journey. From the moment it starts, and as it plays, you are left with the amazing desire to hear what comes next and next and next... and with every minute that goes, it amazes you with something new and different.

This is an album to be discovered and treasured.

Ron Carter is and has been one of the best in the business. I have been an avid listener for well over 30 years and this is one of his best efforts. Give it a listen and you will be converted. Music of this caliber is not recorded much anymore. What a loss to the arts.

5.0 out of 5 stars A famous accompianist has his day..., January 10, 2007

Normally you might expect to have this artist at the end of the personnel list, but here he is at the beginning:
Ron Carter, bass;
Kenny Barron, piano;
Hugh McCracken, keyboards + harmonica on "Woolaphant";
Harvey Mason, drums;
plus a string section.
Arrangements by Ron Carter and Don Sebesky.
Recorded October 18-19 1976 and mixed at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley.
Digitally remastered in 1991 at Fantasy Studios (this recording).

What a line up of music and musicians! If you enjoy these artists I recommend you add it to your collection right away! If you have any doubts, listed to the samples above -- my favorite is One Bass Rag.
