A Review of "Pasteur and Modern Science", December 3, 2010
This review is from: Pasteur and Modern Science (Paperback)
An incredibly well written book! Dubos provides a wonderfully captivating and insightful perspective into the life and scientific strength of Pasteur. The work takes the reader through the scientific and personal life of Pasteur as he progresses from school boy, student, crystallographer, chemist, biologist, and finally a key actor in scientific history. Additionally, it paints the somewhat tense emergence of microbiology within Europe as it details an initial resistance to Pasteur's work on microbes. Finally, it provides a smooth resolve as Pasteur's ideas become increasingly accepted following the development and success of both Anthrax and Rabies vaccinations. If you hold any curiosity regarding the world's foray into microbiology, immunology, sterile technique, or modern medicine, this book is a must! It most definitely peaked my interest in medicine, and I whole-heartedly recommend it!
Cheers, RK
