This volume is of particular use to priests and deacons in ministry to the sick and dying. The Old and New Testament scripture readings correspnd to one another which makes this a useful aid to liturgists in planning healing services.

This book, Pastoral Care of the Sick: Rites of Anointing and Viaticum.
It's a great book for all people who has the mission or pastoral of visiting hospitals. It's really helpfull easy to understand and to follow.

Don't be misguided by the description - this is not a "hardcover" book. It's pocket size is nice to enable you to carry it around but it has that cheap looking flexible plastic cover. The book itself is good but I am disappointed in the binding.

Effective Ministry to the Sick,

Pastoral Care of the Sick is a valuable tool for Eucharistic Ministers to the sick in hospitals or nursing homes as well as to the homebound. The book contains information that erases many mental questions marks about how to properly and effectively take Holy Communion to those who are unable to join in the Eucharistic celebration of the Mass.

This is a very comprehensive book for its small size and should be very helpful for any priest or even lay person interested in these rites. My only complaints are that I wish it were black instead of green and it would be nice if it were a bit smaller so it would more easily fit into a pocket.

Excellent Resource,

This book just arrived, and I confess that I did not get it from Amazon (sorry!). Mine has the same ISBN and is hard-cover and it will not fit neatly into a pocket-it's maybe 6x10. As an LCMS pastor what I like about it is: (a) it's extremely easy to read-the print is large; (b) it is liturgically responsible; (c) it is scripturally accurate and it is inclusive. Naturally I would disagree over the celebration of communion it contains; that aside, there is much in this resource that is commendable. The Lutherans do have the new LSB Pastor's Companion and there is also the Rites and Resources for Pastoral Care printed by the Lutheran Church of Australia. For me, the LSB, which I use, is difficult to handle while conducting the rite of anointing the sick. The work by the LC-Australia is in my opinion more rite orientated-that is the anointing of the sick has its own stand-alone rite. I do like the Catholic version for the prayers over the oil-and why not, we pray over the communion elements and the inclusion of water from the font also is important. I would agree with our Roman Catholic and Orthodox friends that it is a sacrament.
