Format: Paperback
This is a rich and satisfying read. It wraps you in the Father's love and assurance, yet challenges you to press on for more in the joy of the Lord. This book helps you find the path to a renewed passion for Christ, and to seeing your ministry become the effective fruit you hoped for when you answered God's call to service.
I am not a pastor, in fact, I am just a middle aged wife and mother. But I desire for the remainder of my life to be a reflection of His love and grace. This book helped me refocus my attentions and priorities. I love the call to seeking God's face, not just His hands in our lives - to truly know Him and love Him no matter what He does or doesn't do for us. I love too, the call to love my spouse and family better, and the testimony that provides.
Mostly, I am grateful for David Holt's transparency. He shares things about himself that relieved my mind. It is easy to let the thought that we are not good enough or that our sins and imperfections disqualify us from the Lord's service. Not so! - and this book beautifully illustrates that truth.
Let this book bless you and others! This would be a super gift for a pastor, but also for anyone who desires to serve the Lord in ANY capacity!

Format: Paperback
My heart in this book is to encourage and challenge pastors. I believe ministry is the greatest privilege in the world. I seek to balance the heart and hands of ministry. This book is also very relevant for church leaders and all lay persons. I address having a passion for God, family, the local church, purity, humility, the balance of the Word and the Spirit, preaching, worship, and longevity in ministry.

Format: Paperback
Being a lay person in church, I purchased two books to give away as gifts. I thought it would be over my head as a lay member in church , and found it was easy reading, simple to understand, yet addresses the tough issues. It hit me where I live, and the application of the grace to live it, I couldn't put it down. It helped to identify the human struggle, that is so common to each of us. One of my favorites on page 135 on Integrity, and realness. " Vunerability means a certain kind of soul nakedness. Who feels safe in the presence of perfection." It spoke to me of such balance of life, and ministy. I just felt it was so practical to meeting me where life takes me , into the daily battles , and frustrations life can bring into this area of serving God. This is not just for Pastor's. A great read, and practical application. I came away wanting to read more from this author.

(B. Owens) This is the type of book I'd love to have had back in 2004 when I started as a ministry intern. David's work is transparent and authentic; one in which he shares generously from his experienced leadership. There is a plethora of ministry leadership books out there, but this book by Dr. David Holt speaks uniquely to the challenges of a leader's heart in a way that is both affirming and inspiring.

This book is personal, theologically sound, and extremely practical. I recommend it for all pastors. It makes an ideal gift for all pastors who desire to be faithful pastors and at the same time faithful husbands and parents. David writes out of many years of experience in a very helpful and readable way.
