Grieving for Miss Read ?, March 22, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Pastures New: The Modern Miss Read (Hardcover)
I was embarassed after pining the past 5 or 6 years for Fairacre & Thrush Green to find Ann Purser has created her own view of village life with some spice added. While the audience in the US is probably limited,I've heard enough comments in the local library regarding Miss Read's absence to realize there is a market for this type of book. Evil Mrs. Pringle is here in the guise of Ivy Beasley(what a name...) and the village store owner is on center stage-she certainly is in a position to know what's going on. The village school teacher has wisely moved out of town to enjoy a peaceful homelife but we hardly miss her with all the other cast members.Hoefully, Mrs. Purser will continue on with this village series for as many years as we enjoyed the Miss Read books.
