Pat Benatar Get Nervous. Chrysalis Records CHR 1396

Customer Reviews

Of all her albums, I think this is definitely one of Benatar's best.
Bradley Potts
Now if only Chrysalis/Capitol would remaster the sucker it'd be like Christmas 1982 all over again.
Bradley Jacobson
Every song on this album is amazing with Fight it out being a powerful rock ballad.

This is another great rock'n one from Pat's 80's archive. Although the radio friendly Shadows of the Night and Little Too Late satisfy the pop seeking audience, the highlights here are the ones which were never released as singles and just happen to be written by Pat and her hubby Neil Geraldo.

On this album, which followed Crimes of Passion and Precious Time, she continued to belt out hits about the trauma, heartache and passion of looking for and falling in and out of love. Pat's vocal range and integrity remain at its best throughout this project.

"Fight It Out" has some awesome lyrics which Pat belts out in the most passionate and articulate way. Her operatic background peeks out on this somewhat angry ballad as she hits some of her higher notes while Neil shows off his excellence on guitar. Pat's articulate, passionate and highly energetic vocals continue on "The Victim", I'll Do It" and "I Want Out" and "Tell It to her". The angry love theme also continues throughout the lyrics of these great songs. Those looking for Pat's mellower sounds of peace, tranquility and contentment will have to look later in her catalog. Expect to rock with this one!

"Get Nervous" is Pat Benatar at her best. While her first two albums always get more attention from critics and fans, this album is often overlooked for its quality and timelessness. This album was made after she got married to her long time guitarist Neil. And it shows the energy they picked up from each other after making a personal commitment to each other. They made this album more for themselves instead for the public. I think every track is exceptional, and it is hard to pick my five favorites off of "Get Nervous". But I will hit it with my best shot. Sorry, I know bad joke. My five favorites off of "Get Nervous are as follows: 1)"I'll Do It". This song starts with a bang and doesn't let up. The combination of drums with bass and keyboards is incredible, and Pat's singing is at her best. A song way before it's time. 2)"Fight It Out". An intense song lyrically and musically. The song starts with a pretty piano piece and a wicked guitar lick and builds to one of the prettiest and most powerful choruses' I have heard. This song also shows Pats great vocal control. She hits so many ranges so effortlessly, you lose count. 3)"Tell It To Her". A song about confronting a lover with knowledge of secret affairs, with lyrics and music that expertly play up the hurt feelings of betrayal being conveyed by Pat. 4)"I Want Out". Another song to express revenge on a lover who hurt once too often. I love it. 5)"Shadows of the Night". The big hit off the album still sounds as good as it did when it came out. Pat has always amazed me at her expert songwriting. While the music rocks all around her, she is singing about intense issues like child abuse and spousal abuse and adultry.Read more ›

Why does this listing of Get Nervous say original recording remastered when the release date still says October 25, 1990 ? There must be a misprint here - either the title should not say remastered or the album specs should be updated for the correct release date, etc.. I just purchased In the Heat of the Night, Crimes of Passion and Precious Time (finally as individually remastered albums) and the release date was April of 2006 for each of them; therefore, I would believe that if Get Nervous is TRULY REMASTERED then the release date should say April of 2006. Does anyone know anything about this ?

Is there such a thing as a bad Benatar CD? Of course not, and this is one of her best recordings overall. Love it! But it is not remastered as the Amazon ad states which is why I give 4 stars instead of 5. C'mon Amazon, it is easy to tell from the product if it is remastered or not, all of the Benatar CDs that are remastered state so clearly on the CD case. It is not hard to get that one right. But anyway, still an excellent disc.

Since there is only this version of Get Nervous, you might as well add it to your collection if you do not have it already until hopefully a remastered version does come out. That is what I am doing. As a remastered version comes out of any, I am replacing the originals - unless the remaster is not as good. You need to watch that because some of the re-issued ones are not so great (double CD in One versions - not so great remastering on some songs and some songs are variant version on these). Get Nervous - a gotta have in your Benatar library - a great CD from the best female rocker of all time in my opinion.

I am a Pat Benatar's long time fan and since I first listen to this record in 1982 it became one of my favorites. I just have bought the CD and I felt like I was back in my teens. Pat's voice is so powerful and heartfelt which makes you really feel her music. In Get Nervous Pat Benatar shows a great maturity, her voice sounds better than ever and all the tracks are excellent! "Shadows of the Night", "Looking for a Stranger", "Fight it out" (Terrific!"!), "I'll Do It" and "I Want out" just to name some, are AWESOME tracks. If you are eager to listen to a great female rock singer, this is the chance!
