4.0 out of 5 stars Boom Boom - On Go The Lights
If you like Pat Travers at all I think you're going to like this dvd. I've had a chance to watch it one time and here is what I think.

First let me say that although I like some of Pat Travers' music, I am not a huge fan. I saw the band open for Rush in 1978 and later purchased a couple of his cds. So, as you read this review keep in mind that it wasn't...

3.0 out of 5 stars Pat Travers rhythm guitarist
I bought this DVD remembering seeing this band live and rocking out many many years ago. I guess I must of missed something when I was younger and saw Pat Travers. Maybe I was just to buzzed to notice back then. But he really only plays lead guitar on a few songs and a few places here and there. The music is okay, and you can hear his voice suffering. As far as anyone...

So, as you read this review keep in mind that it wasn't written by someone who thinks that Pat walks on water.

The dvd is pretty basic. It has a play concert and a chapter selection, and not much else. The concert takes place in what appears to be a small club, so the stage is not very large or fancy. Of course with a small stage the musicians were limited in their movement, as were the camera operators. Those were the only two negative things I found with this dvd, and neither was a big deal to me.

These are some of the things I like about this dvd. It has a very good mix. The instruments sound big and fat with a good balance. To me this dvd sounds a lot like the Pat Travers Live album released in the late 70's, with the exception that Pat now has trouble singing the high notes. But don't let that bother you because he more than makes up for it when he growls out the low notes. Also, the musicianship of the band is excellent. They are a tight band, and I can really appreciate their musicianship. Finally, and probably the best thing about this dvd is the fact that it's just like being there at the concert, that is without the cigarette smoke and intoxicated fans. The filming of the concert is pretty basic. It has a few different camera angels and thats about it; no annoying artistic liberties taken here.

For me, this dvd was well worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hardest Rockin' Travers ever!!!, February 25, 2007
This review is from: The Pat Travers Band - Boom Boom - Live at the Diamond 1990 (DVD)
From 1991 comes a very well filmed Pat Travers Band from the Diamond Club in Toronto, Canada. The sound is quite impressive as well.

Featuring the very capable Mars Cowling on bass and Jerry Riggs on second guitar, this lineup just pounds out these Travers classics as well as a handful of newer tunes from his "School Of Hard Knocks" release from the previous year. Probably Pat Travers at his hardest rocking best. This band pounds with the best of them, adding a new degree of hard rock to these already rocking tunes.

If this DVD release is set up like the VHS video is, there appears to be a song or too missing from the printed song order on the packaging. Fear not, these songs appear after the closing credits as a surprise encore(s).

This is a must for any Pat Travers fan. From start to finish, Pat tears it up on all the hits and even some you may not know as well. It's filmed in a small club in Toronto so you get an upclose look at the band and be sure and watch the way his fingers shread his guitar. Awesome!

As far as anyone calling this guy a guitar god, I got news for you, not even close. You want guitar god lead guitar buy the soon to be released Frank Marino DVD, any Gary Moore, or Robin Trower, but this guy not so much. Kind of like watching Joan Jett except she's hot and female.

5.0 out of 5 stars P.T. just shreds in this vid!!!, February 25, 2003
By A Customer
I actually saw this tour in Monterey, CA. At a club i would eventually work at. This was during the "SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS" TOUR.... They played the same material just as the vid with a couple of extra encore's with "HOT ROD LINCOLN" & " HOOKED ON MUSIC". I am a guitar player too, so take it from any guitar player who loves this vid to check it out. P.T has always been one of my musical influences not to forget JIMI. I've had mine for 6 years and still watch it alot. P.T. just shreds and rips through so many of his famous riffs and licks. Sound quality is excellent too. Highly recommend!!

If your a fan of power rock from the 70's/80's this DVD got it all. Great recording from a Toronto concert and PT and boy's are dialed in and giving it their all. Grab a beer, press play and volume to 11!

4.0 out of 5 stars rock on..., October 25, 2009

Yeah his voice is a bit shot on the high notes but the band is tight and rocks hard..his sideman (Riggs) gets plenty of showcasing though i could do without the pirate shirt and 80's glam hair...but he does play/sing his butt off.

All around good rock concert as long as you know most of the songs before you see
it...enjoy the ride...

This review is from: The Pat Travers Band - Boom Boom - Live at the Diamond 1990 (DVD)
I have seen Pat TRavers at least 10 times in my life, and this has to be his worst performance. He cannot sing any high notes anymore, and he looks like a middle age women who is bloating. There is a previous video out that is excellent. He is a lot younger in it, and the songs are full of energy. This one bites.
