Book Description

October 1999
Endless stretches of rugged coastline, spectacular ranges of snow- capped mountains, starkly beautiful plains - these are the images that "Patagonia" evokes. This remote region at the southernmost tip of the Americas is one of the last areas of true wilderness left in the world. Here at last is a book that captures the unique character of this part of the planet. Over 120 striking photos convey the haunting beauty that has been drawing the adventurous to its shores for centuries. One of Argentina's most noted anthropologists, author and photographer Dr. Daniel Rivademar recounts the region's fascinating history and describes its diverse animal and plant life in an expert, but easy- to-read style.

Patagonia has become a dream destination for adventure travellers and eco- tourists. It is an ideal location for those seeking a unique vacation experience, whether mountain climbing, whale watching or staying at remote ranches that have been converted to inns. This book will make a wonderful memento for those who have visited Patagonia and a dream book for those who long to go there.

Bird watchers and anyone else interested in natural history will be fascinated with the book's images of Patagonia's unique flora and fauna - sea elephant colonies and pods of right whales, condors and many varieties of seabirds, monkey puzzle trees and petrified forests.

Spectacular photographs of Patagonia's rich geography - from the huge caves that dot the coast to the majestic ice fields of the glacial mountains - will have you feeling ocean spray on your face and tasting the chilly mountain air.

This review is from: Patagonia: The Last Wild (Hardcover)
I was disappointed by the book and returned it. It has a nice variety of images, but they all look crummy. I bought the book based on the cover image (which, while a familiar scene, appeared to have good color saturation). And indeed the dust jacket is pretty, but the images inside are all washed out.

I can't comment on the text.
