Treacherous in the Wet!!!
on December 5, 2014
First, let me state that I really liked the fit and the style (very cool Patagonia logo graphic sewn into the body). BUT, I wore it today and it rained this afternoon - when walking back from work to public transportation, I found out that these shoes are extremely slippery! I had to be very careful not to step on anything but the concrete sidewalk. Along the way (I work in SF), there are some sidewalks that have small pebbles imbedded and others with tiles (The Embarcadero Center), the painted crosswalks, the metal grates and even the escalator to BART - on all these surfaces, the shoe sole was extremely slippery and I had to be ultra careful not to slip and fall (it almost felt like walking on ice). As I mentioned, only on the concrete sidewalks (and the street) were these ok when wet - any other surface was treacherous. I'm not sure what compound they used for the sole, but it's terrible for the wet.
I didn't see other comments about this - has anyone else had this experience?
Needless to say, I was glad to get back home and take them off. I'm really disappointed, especially since they're from a reputable outdoor gear company like Patagonia. I will not wear them again, even in the dry (what if there's a wet spot somewhere that I don't see?) - since they're now used, not sure what to do with them since it's likely that Amazon won't take them back. I'm going to call Patagonia directly and see if they'll help out.
