Editorial Reviews

From Kirkus Reviews

It's a quick read for fans of adventure--the time- and world-traveling components add a fun touch.

Review

"Patalosh" is a riveting read that younger readers will relish and not be able to put down, recommended.
-- Midwest Book Review

"This book had a very cool plot to it. It was very different from any middle grade book I've read. Who wouldn't like to go on a time traveling journey to all seven continents on Earth?!?"
-- This Kid Reviews Books

I would recommend "Patalosh: The Time Travelers" by Z Altug and Tracy Gensler to people who enjoy magic, adventure and action. The chapters are short and I couldn't put it down until I finished it. I am hoping that there is a sequel to this.
-- Reader Views Kids

... The authors use original ideas throughout the book, creating a book like never before. The feeling is satisfying, and everyone should experience it! This is an excellent book and certainly praise-worthy!
-- Sacramento Book Review

Fiction can bring history and geography to life, especially for kids who are bored by the often rote memorizations of school lessons. Patalosh: The Time Travelers, by Z Altug and Tracy Gensler, creates a rich science fiction setting, with characters who visit foreign and ancient cultures via time travel.
-- ForeWord Review

This is a lively and playful beginning to what promises to be an imaginative and adventurous science fiction series for children. I look forward to reading the next in the series.
-- IndieReader

The story is lively with an amazing, cool plot of time travel, magic and adventure and visiting different continents on Earth. On top of that, the illustrations are fun and marvelously done.

PATALOSH: THE TIME TRAVELERS by Z Altug and Tracy Gensler is a most interesting read. I really liked this book as it had a captivating story line that kept my attention. I just didn't want to put it down so I finished it in two sittings. The author created very likeable characters, and a fast-paced adventure. Well-written with descriptions that made it easy to visualize.

In a nutshell, this book is a story about the fantasy world of Patalosh; a young hero named Orion, and his time travels through the universe. His quest takes place on a magical ship called Exploricus and he must solve 7 riddles to save his parents from the bad Emperor, Daaggerd. Along the way he gathers friends who have strange abilities who help him in his travels. The end of the journey opens up a whole new adventure and leaves the reader anticipating the next book in the series.

Highly recommended and looking forward to future books by these two authors.

Bestselling and award-winning author,
RJ Parker

Format: Paperback
Some Taloshians (beings from the island of Patalosh on the planet Lumina) settled on Earth once they were able to travel through space and time on the airship HMS Exploricus. Orion Spence is a ten-year-old NonTaloshian (a NonTaloshian is a thing (a tree is an example of a "thing" being a NonTaloshian or just a regular human) with no powers) who lives with his parents on Earth in Antarctica. Orion just wakes up after being clobbered on the head. His parents are gone, his home is burned and the HMS Exploricus is crashed (Orion's Dad is he Captain of the air-ship). Orion knows it was "Red Eyes" that took his parents and he finds out that only he has the key to stopping Red Eyes and rescuing his parents. Together with the crew of the HMS Exploricus and some new (and old) friends, Orion sets off on a journey that takes him across the world and time to try to solve seven riddles that will help him find his parents and stop Red Eyes.

This book had a very cool plot to it. It was very different from any middle grade book I've read. Who wouldn't like to go on a time traveling journey to all seven continents on Earth?!? I really like how the book is about the really great adventure of a boy trying to save his parents, but you also learn about cultures from different times and places on Earth. Orion makes and/or brings a friend along at each continent he goes to. I liked how the crew of the Exploricus ate food that was from the place/time the ship was "sky-docked" over. I thought it was very interesting. I also really like the Taloshian characters. They are in different forms - human-like, cats, even plants! They can fly and cast energy spells. There is some very mild violence and a few scary situations, but noting that a young advanced reader couldn't read. There is no bad language in the book. The reading level is harder than most MG books (I liked that) but the plot doesn't drag.

I liked the book because it contains so many twists and turns. It's full of action and adventure and held my interest through the whole thing.
I would recommend the book to everyone! Even readers who don't normally enjoy science fiction (like me) or fantasy adventures will appreciate the loveable characters and the surprises.

HMS Exploricus has crash landed in the Antarctic. And it is winter. The sun shines only briefly in the winter so Orion will have to move quickly if he is going to survey his situation. He quickly discovers his parents are gone- kidnapped.

This is the adventure of Orion traveling all over the world with the crew of the HMS Exploricus in search of his parents. Along the way the crew is introduced to all sorts of cultures, foods, and adventures.

This is a terrific book for ages 8 to 12 to read and explore the time travel maps, energy spells, Orion's family tree. Add to that that Orion must save his parents from the bad Emperor, Daaggerd by solving 7 riddles.

Patalosh, The Time Travelers by Z. Altug and Tracy Gensler is a good book about magic, Time Traveling, Portals and more.

This is a fantastic book that was greatly enjoyed by my reviewer. So much so that he wanted to read the book again before handing it back to me (I told him he could keep it). It's great and full of futuristic time traveling and great characters with varied abilities and traits. My reviewer thought it would have been a bit better if they'd explained some of the scientific terms.

Appropriateness: This book is great for middle grade readers 9-14. It is creepy and has some fighting but no adult content.

I really liked this book, however the first several chapters did not move quick enough for me. Chapter four things really picked up and then I could not put the book down. It is filled with action, adventure, worry, self doubt, Orion finding the courage to believe in himself, and of course time travel. I would recommend this book to middle school and high school boys.

I downloaded Patalosh without knowing anything about it. The begining is a bit slow, but it quickly pulls you in. It has a mesh of time-travel, different countries, and taloshians! Definatley give it a try!
