Delightful Holiday Romance, December 13, 2009
This review is from: Her Patchwork Family (The Gabriel Sisters Series #2) (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Historical #45) (Mass Market Paperback)
If you enjoy holiday romances, look no further. This one is sure to leave you feeling warm and cozy. And who doesn't need that at this time of year? The heroine, Felicity Gabriel, is working to start an orphanage in the time following the civil war. Judge Tyrone Hawkins can't help noticing how people, both adults and children, are drawn to Felicity, including his own troubled daughter. And Tyrone finds himself drawn to her as well. Felicity Gabriel is a strong woman who strives for peace but is not afraid to stand up for herself or the people she cares about. She has an open heart and is always concerned for others, without ever being nosy or pushy. And who could not fall in love with the hero, Tyrone? He deserved some happiness in his life after years of grief. If you like Louisa May Alcott's family chronicles such as Little Women or Under the Lilacs, I think you'll like Her Patchwork Family as well. Like Alcott, Lyn Cote shows the beauty of family life and the importance of adults who care for and lead children into adulthood, but without Alcott's tendency to preach. (Different times, different styles.)
Her Patchwork Family is the second book in the Gabriel Sisters series. The first book, which I plan to go back and read, is Her Captain's Heart.
