I just got this CD and I'm absolutely dazzled by it! The overture is one of the BEST overtures I've ever heard! The song FRiends, The Best of is one of the most gorgeous pieces of music I have ever heard. How Far is Too Far is also beautiful. Little Fat Girls is heartbreakingly beautiful. WHoever orchestrated those songs is a GENUIS!BUY IT!

This show is really cute. Most people say that anyone who went to Catholic school will love it, but I'm not even Catholic and I still understood the humor. I am glad that my friends were in a production of this musical, so that I was introduced to it. The story follows a group of children, mainly Eddie and Becky, through Catholic school, starting with their first day of school and continuing through high school and beyond graduation. This recording is done well. At first it was disturbing that adults play their characters from age 5 at the beginning to adulthood at the end of the play. Once one accepts that, the recording is very enjoyable. The voices sound great, with the exception of a few spots in group numbers. The show's run on Broadway was extremely brief, which is something that I never understood. The story and the music are strong, there is really no reason that the show shouldn't have done well. C'est la vie. Anyone would enjoy this CD. There are ballads, uptempos, and there are several different musical styles explored between the songs. Anyone who enjoys musical theatre soundtracks would like this one.

Geez. I was so excited to find this cd on amazon.com. Back in the early 90's I had the honor to catch this musical at the Warner Theatre in Washington, DC and immediately fell in love with the story and the cast. Russ Thacker is truly the highlight of the musical but the rest of the cast is excellent!!! If you don't already have it grab it now! Long Live Russ Thacker & DBPLSRRU!

... in this case I'll make an exception. I got this CD in preparation to play the role of Eddie Ryan at my local community theater. I fell immediately in love with it. The music is stirring and poignant and funny and wise, with all-around excellent performances by vocalists and instrumentalists alike. Russ Thacker especially deserves a standing ovation for his remarkably nuanced stylings. Whenever I try to sing along with the final number, "Thank God," I get a lump in my throat -- it's that good. A hearty thank-you to all those involved with this production from one erstwhile Catholic schoolboy.

Awesome Show,

Last year at my old Catholic High School, we performed this show, and I had the fortune to play the part of Eddie Ryan. It was such a blast. This CD provides great memories in an excellent format. One of the neatest things about this recording is that the humor of the show comes through the music, even without the entire script. This show is wonderful to listen to, and will provide many hours of enjoyment.

this show is just awsome. i was a part of the show this past fall playing the part of Eddie Ryan and it was a blast. The storyline is classic and very funny. The tale of Becky and Eddie falling in love was just great and sister Lee is perfect. this show is amazing and i recomend anyone to either be a part of it and or see it live. the cd is very well done. the one thing i did not like about it was the woman playing Becky. wasnt much a fan of her voice, but other than that the show and the cd are perfect extentions to any cd collection.

I preformed in this play last year as Becky and just fell in love. It's wonderful having the cd because it brings back such wonderful memories. This play has it all, it leaves you laughing on the ground, and yet crying with over whellming emotion. It is beautifuly written and every theatre lover should buy it. The songs all have such a wonderful story behind it, these charactors really come to life in the songs and it really deserves to be heard.

After just having performed the show at my high school, I have had the pleasure of listening to this CD for the last two months, and I have yet to tire of it. The songs are all solidly performed, with some truly stand-out performers. The actress who sings "Becky"'s role, however, has a voice that grates on the nerves at times, especially in the earlier songs. All in all, however, this is a good recording of a GREAT show!

Good old-fashioned love story with a couple nuns put in,

When I heard my theatre group was doing this show I asked myself "Why are we doing a musical with such a long title?". I couldn't imagine having to say "Yes I'm in Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?' every time someone asked me what show I was in, but to be honest it was totally worth it. This musical is one where the entire family can enjoy even if you never felt the sting of a nun's ruler or the the headache from the priest's book.
