4.0 out of 5 stars Great articles and patent info - the best book on sawsets!, May 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Patented American sawsets: An illustrated patent directory, 1812-1925
This is the best book on saw sets available to date, and should be in the library of anyone interested in saw tools. Mr. Friberg has written an excellent series of articles at the begining of his book outlining the differences in the saw sets one is likely to encounter. Many of the illustrations are taken from his extensive collection of period documentation and are unavailable anywhere else. The patent documentation is the result of years of research and provides invaluable research material for identifying an unusual tool or learning more about one you already know something about. The patent names, dates and numbers are sorted several ways to allow one to search by either of these marks, which greatly helps narrow down a search. The body of the book includes the first page of the patent illustrations, which helps to identify a tool by shape, or to merely review the vast array of saw sets which were patented. This book would interest anyone who likes saw tools, an under-appreciated category which is quickly growing as an important segment of tool collecting.
