4.0 out of 5 stars Wheel of Time, that's enough for me.
Really, as long as it continues the Wheel of Time story, most fans would be pleased (at least for a short while). The story -does- have its shortcomings, but perhaps the following books would serve to improve the quality of Path of Daggers somehow.

As for the limited edition, firstly it's bound in green leather and comes in a matching slipcase, secondly it's limited edition (around 100-200 copies), thirdly it has Robert Jordan's signature in ink somewhere there.

If you've got money, what the heck are you waiting for?

Pub:"Mr Jordan POD is great, but we have to milk the public for all its worth...so why don't we break this book into 2 parts...POD short version and then in Nov' we can release the 2nd part "Winters Heart". Each previous book had an "episode" quality. Meaning there was some conclusion while keeping the series alive. I got the impression POD was severely chopped up by the editor. Examples: Just when Egwene's Rebels are about to launch an attack.. cut ! Perins wife gets in trouble, he's on his way to rescue her...cut ! No mention of Matt (Is he dead or alive ?), er sorry Robert take that out, we can bring him in part deux "Winters Heart". This is the first time in the series I've seen such shoddy work. Maybe Jordan is struggling to continue series, maybe the publishers know the series is coming to a close...maybe thats why their stretching it. For the record, I'd did buy this book and and will continue buying them. Like I said great series !

4.0 out of 5 stars It's Wheel of Time, and it rocks almost as hard as the rest!, December 29, 1999

Book eight... Many negative reviews were written when this book came out. Truth is that there are not many die-hard action-events in this book. Truth is too, that some of the topics are considered not vrey interesting by some readers. It's still a fact though, that the online WoT-community is heavily alive, and that Robert Jordan still is really, really popular. What I'm saying is, that there are lots of people who liked book eight (like I do), but have never said that aloud, because there is no need to. People who judge books for money have to state an opinion, and if you're not into the series, I guess "Path of Daggers" is as interesting as you average book about fishing. Most of the fans like the book, other people don't. If you came to this pages, you most probably are a fan, so go buy! (I am very sorry for both grammatical and linguistical errors in this text. I'm not a native speaker)

5.0 out of 5 stars Another excellent addition to Jordan's series, April 17, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Path Of Daggers: Limited Edition (The Wheel of Time, Book 8) (Paperback)
I do not have the limited edition, but have read the Path ofDaggers, and if you have read any of Jordan's previous books in thisseries, you will like this. If you haven't read the series, you should. He has the best character development I have seen, and It is full of clues you will miss during the first reading, but each subsequent time you read the book, you will catch a few more hidden clues as to how the series will end. As far as the limited edition, I asked Amazon.com, and they told me it is A. Limited, and B. Comes with a leather cover. That is what makes it so much more expensive than the others.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating, mesmerizing page-turner, August 11, 1999
By

This review is from: The Path Of Daggers: Limited Edition (The Wheel of Time, Book 8) (Paperback)
I've read the other reviews of this book on this page as well as Robert Jordan's comments and feel very strongly that many readers with negative reviews have been spoiled by the early books in the WOT series. It has been a long time since a series like this thoroughly engrossed me and had such a strong range of characters. Plus we've gotten to read a huge amount of well-written fiction that most publishers might have split into even smaller books. 1,000+ pages in any book, let alone a series of fantasy is a treat. I agree that POD was shorter than the other books in the series, but it seems clear (to me) that this is only a part of what will be told. I'm willing to wait, because I know that it will be worth it. If I was at all disappointed, it was because it ended too soon, but isn't that what makes us read it in the first place?

5.0 out of 5 stars A series most definitely worth reading!!!, April 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Path Of Daggers: Limited Edition (The Wheel of Time, Book 8) (Paperback)
I began this series with a failure of interest, and the confusion at the beginning of it didn't help much. But as I read on my interest gradually rose until finally I became just another one of many WoT fanatic. Not only does it succeed in what most books fail at--giving the world a life of its own and then bringing you there, so you experience all the love and hate, pain and ecstacy that the characters experience as if YOU were the characters. The detail is emence and the plot intricate. Also Jordan makes you think about the story and what events will occur later on, instead of laying it out cut and dry (although I do have to admit this Read And Find Out business he gives for every question is rather irking). The only downfalls I find in his series come from the recent book, The Path of Daggers. He relented the descriptive details and brought characters into the story who had nothing to do with the previous books, only to have them killed or rid of twenty pages later. Also, his characters are starting to get quite annoying; and Mat, my utmost favorite character in the series was absent the whole book. But with my ever lasting faith in Jordan's works, I'm sure has a reasonable excuse for these faults. If you want to read a massive story wherein you get to know the characters like a close friend, whilst exploring an enormous world, then read the WoT (and kick yourself if you don't). But reader prepare thyself, for Jordan might again decide to pull a Let's-make-a-book-about-my-books and-a-short-story-also stunt--which thus makes the WoT fans tear their hair over the 2 1\2 years of waiting for the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read it again, cause if you didnt like it the first time..., August 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Path Of Daggers: Limited Edition (The Wheel of Time, Book 8) (Paperback)
I thought it was a great book. If you read the whole series in one continuous cycle, it works out great. If you didnt like it, I say read it again. Cause I didnt think it was that great at first, but then I read it again. I thought it was a lot better. I looked deeper into it, and found it more enjoyable. I didnt look at it from a critics point of view at all. All I can say is read it again. And Robert Jordan, THANKS FOR SIGNING MY BOOK:), makes it all worthwhile.

2.0 out of 5 stars If the next one's this bad...., April 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Path Of Daggers: Limited Edition (The Wheel of Time, Book 8) (Paperback)
This book was nothing more than filler put out during a time when Jordan was getting hassled by fans and publishers. It did reveal a few interesting things which I'm sure will be useful to know later, but all in all, this book could have come out a lot sooner, and I still would have been disappointed. Jordan has done an incredible job in keeping non-fantasy fans interested in his work; now he has to do better.

2.0 out of 5 stars 90% Fluff. Same characters, different names., November 9, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Path Of Daggers: Limited Edition (The Wheel of Time, Book 8) (Paperback)
I like Mr. Jordans "Wheel Of Time" books. "Eye of the World" is one of my favorite books. It alone will keep me reading Mr. Jordan's books. But the books are getting to be less than telling a story and more of milking a franchise. I can sum up the first 100 pages in a few short words - EVERY female character feels: strong -yet weak, in control - but not in charge, rebellious - yet bound by tradition, domineering - yet submissive, powerful - yet weak, deadly - but hesitant, confident - yet unsure, forceful - yet afraid, admired - yet abused, in love - yet spurned. The only difference in characters is the degree of these attributes, their dress and land of origin. At the end of these character descriptions, they use a bowl and the weather is fixed.

There is way too much character garbage. New characters are introduced who are exactly like previous characters. Old characters just disappear. Old characters/villians could easily perform the function of the new without all the confusion of who did what, for whom, to whom and why. One of the main characters, Matt, isn't even in the 700 page story!

Finally, two of the biggest events get the smallest description. Rand destroys the Seanchen army and Faile is captured by the Shaido. Faile's capture is only 1 chapter! It seemed it was just an add on at the end. Alot less time could have been spent on the incessant female whining and more on the description of the events.

After 8 novels, I'll stick by Mr. Jordan and hope for better in the future.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good transition book for the series, October 25, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Path Of Daggers: Limited Edition (The Wheel of Time, Book 8) (Paperback)
This book did not seem to have as much action or non-stop reading as the other books. It seemed like it was used as sort of a go-between for The Crown of Swords and the book to come after Path of Daggers, just introducing new settings and not acting them out.I do, however, feel the last chapter was one of the best from any of the books.
